Go to Sears and ask for the universal filter wrench that has the 3 claws. It has a nut on the outer edge of it. Then use a gear wrench on that nut. It works very slick. Some one posted the part numbers but I couldn't find it. Might be under the first oil change thread somewhere, or I think it said filter wrench or something.

I bought that wrench and it didn't work on mine, the oil filter was too small a diameter for it to grab. My local yammi dealer had a socket cap for the oil filter for about $8, it said that it was for a suzuki. We had to cut a bolt off and square it up to fit in the end and then use a open ended wrench to get it off. Please take note that the o-ring might not come off with the filter, mine didn't.

Seems funny that the sears wrench in that thread quoted above worked fine and fit just fine on mine, but you were unable to use it?viper_chick said:blue said:Go to Sears and ask for the universal filter wrench that has the 3 claws. All I can tell you is that my husband sent me to Sears to get this 3 claw tool, after reading it on here, so that we could change the oil filter...we had it on the filter and it would not grab, it just spun. We ended up getting the socket type cap that goes on the end and had no issues. My father-in-law has an attak and the oil filter on that is even smaller in diameter.

Don't think it was the wrong one, this is the one that was bought. There was only one size.

I've ordered the Yamaha filter wrench from California, but I don't have a price. The part number is in the service manual.
