Hello,

1) My son and I both have 2005 RX-1s. My sons RX-1 was just taken out of storage and when he tried to start it, he turned the key and nothing at all. So he jumped the battery and it jumped to life immediately, but the tach needle was jumping up and down, it wasn't indicative of what the rpm was actually doing.

Does anyone happen to have an idea as to what we need to check out to correct this problem? It seems like there is some type of electrical problem and we were hoping that someone might know whats going on.

2) Also, being new to snowmobiling, how long should a battery last? We made sure the batteries were charged when in storage.....my RX-1 started right up. Does the battery start to wind down or can it just conk out? The reason I ask, is that I don't want to get stuck somewhere out on the trails!
So what are the signs when one should get a new battery?

Thank you for any help that you can give us.

1) check/charge the batt 1st. might be toast.

2) depends on the maintenance. 3-4 years seems to be the average without a battery tender.

strating problem

Thanks for your help.

We checked the battery and it is okay. Any others ideas as to what to check?

Thanks.

check/clean the battery terminals. one might have come loose or be covered in that green crap. then check the other end of the cables for the same thing. the tac bouncing like that means the cpu is not seeing the battery.

The battery has to be fully charged. If it is not fully charged, there may not be enough power to keep the voltage up.

If the battery is fully charged, could it be that the electrical connector at the back of the Display Unit worked loose?

When the sled is running, what voltage are you seeing at the battery Jumper Cables? 13+VDC?

Did you remove the air box and inspect the battery terminal connections?

More information

Thanks for the feedback.

The battery appeared to be fully charged when put on the battery charger.

I'm not well versed on electrical problems, but I found it strange that the sled would start when jumped, but would not even turn over when tried without jumping the battery.

Could something come unplugged somewhere, we looked but didn't see anything.......are there some specific locations that we should check out?

Thanks again.
