I noticed that my V-Belt is riding about 1/8" BELOW to top of my secondary sheaves. I ordered the correct washers/spacers from Yamaha. After installing the spacers my belt is still sitting in the same position. After experimenting with washers that are twice as thick, the belt is still sitting in the same spot. I also started the engine and engaged the clutch and the belt continues to sit low in the sheaves. I figure I must be doing something wrong. Please Help.

You're putting the washers on the engine side of the driven clutch on the three small bolts correct? :bling

i did the same thing last weekend and didnt notice much change myself. my driven doesnt seem to close consistently on the stand. will be takimg it apart this weekend to clean and inspect. had it up to put new wear rods on today and noticed some play in the upper a arms at the bushing, anyone else notice this?

Yes I am putting the washers on the engine side. In fact I on went on Yamaha's parts diagram and double checked that I am putting these in the right place. I still don't understand how the washer on the outside of the clutch sheaves changes anything.

Adding washer's or removing them set's the bolt's in or out allowing the shiev's to close farther or not. Check to see if the hook on the end of the spring is sticking through to far and not leting the clutch close, Flip end for end if it is as one hook is some times shorter for this reason. Yamaha makes a .5 and 1.0 shim for setting up belt ride height. 1-1.0 is what they come with on each bolt and after the belt wear's you can add a .5. If it squeel's at idle or the track turn's with the track off the ground at idle it is to tight. kviper

Yammi has a 1mm or .040 shim i had to make my owne out of normal washers bought in a hardware store, they are .060 or 1.5 mm and they worked out perfect, now you may need to take the sled around the yard so you can load the sheeves some, not all the time do they come up to where you shimed to,if you only rip it up on a jack stand,i know it sounds funny, but after adjusting mine they lloked the same as before, than i took it for a spin and wala right where i wanted them to be.

MM is right. I've played with mine and "looks" wise it made no difference. Once I had her on the line I could now hear a faint belt squeel...telling me that I had closed the sheaves some. Holeshot was better also. I have a full and 1/2 washer installed.

I also found if you notice where the towers for the helix studs come though the outer half of the clutch there is some material left over from casting. Its sort of a ridge that the tower was hitting on stopping the clutch from "winding" back to the top. I just took a small sanding roll and cleaned everything up. Also my clutch must be out of wack when doing the washer mod to move the belt up if I put a washer under each bolt my clutch would bind. Its out of wack somewhere so I took one washer off binding goes away and sheves sit square. I have a team roller here now Im going to try and will post back however I feel the team will work good in the trails but probably won't MPH.

can someone please verify that there is no spacers that come stock on the clutch already. When I took the three screws out I did not have any spacer on the machine.

Get yourself a belt deflection adjuster from Maxximum performance. Don't have to worry about washers anymore...

I've noticed as well that just running the sled on a stand will not always bring the belt up in the secondary. You need to put some load on the clutches by actually riding the sled.

Yup i ran the team 3 years ago on my 03 rx1 and it ran 117 gps so i dont think you will have to many problems,in fact it ran much better than the team that came on my fusion last year,as long as its does not have a cut for reverse, cut into the bottom of the helix, you will be fine, know i know that team may want you to run a 40 or 44 on top,but i found the top number that worked very good for me was 36 degrees, mine was the dual angle 54/34 54/36 with the black/green spring, what did they give you to try?/

Already have it,works fine, but the same principal if you adjust on jackstand and think its ok,than you go for a ride and stop, you may hear it squeel like a pig!!!

No spacers come from yammi, unlike the secondaries from both poo and cat of years ago,we used to have to take the secondary completely apart and add shims much like jackshaft shims but larger dia. they were .020 .040 shims, but yammi sends there sleds out with small washers that sit under the screws (3) of them, and there should be no binding, look for something else to be doing this, and to answser someone elses question about the rough edges on the inside of the two sheeve hubs, yes clean them up,they are very sharp from the castings,do both sides being careful not to hit the actual sheeve area, where the belt can possible run at wfo running when fully shifted out.

Mine came stock with a 1 MM washer under each of the 3 screws. I added a 2nd 1 MM washer to each one this past week to bring my belt back up a little bit after 1,200 miles of use on the belt.
