Is the first thing I should do is pull the starter to see if the gear is intack ??

If the starter is spinning but not engaging the flywheel, likely the bendix in the starter is bad, not anything to do with internal parts on the engine itself.

Pull the starter out and have it bench tested.

Thanks . I'll pull it and have it tested.

I just had the starter replaced on my '08 Vector LTX. It had worked fine for a week in Mercer, Wi. then when home went to unload, turned the key, heard a "Thud", then a squeal, then nothing.

There is no Bendix on these starters. One-way clutch located on the back side of the flywheel.

There could be teeth missing one of the gears, it's a possibility.

So where is the one way clutch located?? Do I start by pulling the starter ?? Is there a good step by step listed somewhere? Thanks for the help guys ! I just put it in the shop to thaw it out and I’ll start tearing into it next week .

Part of it is in that picture, the one way bearing is on the backside of the flywheel
