I have been testing my Nypex project and am having a overboosting issue maybe someone has seen. I have a 2860 mid mount with a .86 exhaust housing. I was making around 20psi at 2200 ft and bouncing off the rev limiter with 87gr weights. I researched into porting my wastegate and was told by Powderlites that I need a .64 exhaust housing with a ported wastegate. I do realize that at high altitude maybe the boost would come down but I would do some running around at 2200ft and go to the mountains from here up to about 8000ft at the highest. I shelled out the $400 bucks for a new exhaust housing ceramic coated and ported and installed it. I went testing today and now I am tickling 22psi with this new exhaust housing. I talked to good old Dave at Hurricane and he is going to port my .86 housing for me. I would like to be able to go down to 14psi or so and use my boost controller to increase as needed. I do realize that going to a .64 exhaust housing will spool up quicker but it is smaller and even with the gate being ported still not getting out he exhaust. I know a divorced exhaust is more efficient but my exhaust is not restricting by any means. I have adjusted my wastegate until it is open a little with no luck. Any ideas would be appreciated and thanx to Hurricane Dave for always taking the time. Shad

ok, the fact that your overboosting and he recomended you run a smaller exhaust housing makes NO sense.

are you instantly hitting these high boost levels?? if your going straight to it then you have either wastegate arm issues, or controller issues, if its creeping up there from your target boost, then it seems like flow issues. thats how they normally act, if the exhaust is to restrictive, you get boost creep, not instant.

Make sure your wastegate arm moves freely, I know I have seen some that are sticky and wont operate properly. get some shop air regulated down to lowere levels and hook it to yuor wastegate, check out that it works, or also take your boost controller out of the mix, it could easily be stuck... just trying simple stuff, I dont think you should be having issues.

Try a manual switch ,put a 50 pilot inline jet to the turbo side and a higher jet to the on and off switch to control the boost ,and no inline jet to the wastgate side .That should control the boost .

I have tried bypassing the boost controller and still made high boost. I hooked up regulated air to wastegate actuator and it seems to open at about 11psi, seems okay to me. It goes up to about 19psi then creeps up to 23/24psi if I can hang on to it. I had my controller at the lowest and turned it up to test it and saw 27psi on the gauge. Wow crazy. Shad

the wastegate usually opens a little sooner then it should, but wont hold that boost, I know on mine, It starts to open at 6-7# but actually builds 10/11#... and from what I know, the bent arm actuators on the garretts are i think somewhere around 15# I could easily be wrong, but again, you should have no problem keeping the boost down with your setup... how big is the wastegate hole compared to the flapper?? your downpipe is huge, I think the ported .86 might fix you up, just seems odd to me.

also, double check your lines, etc goign to it stupid stuff you know.

its hard to help diagnose stuff like this without being able to touch/feel it, but good luck and hopefully you can get it rockin properlu

being a diamond S turbo setup from what i see scotts setups are for 20 + lbs of boost the wastegate actuator most likely has a nasty stiff spring i know every kit of his is like that, find out what u got and get one that will open at 12-15 lbs i doubt a ported wastegate is going to change much. I bought one of those once what a joke acutally if u can't it right maybe a external wastegate is in order i run them on both my sleds no boost spikes and awesome performance all day long. how u like that nypex they make crazy speed when climbing from what i've seen

what psi waste gate is that? have you ran this set up before or is this all new?. one suggestion for the wastegate is to hook shop air to your vaccum line (directly to the wastegate no boostcontroler) and your boost gauge. blow a little bit of air into the vaccum line and see if it fully moves and at what PSI.

what turbo is that?
