I think you may have found a symptom of the problem. You might want to ask; "Why did that seal blow?" Blowing that seal is very rare. Maybe the Air Filters and the resulting Crankcase ventilation could be a problem.
Anyway, you found it. Sorry I missed the oil on the belt. Assumptions kill.

Could be the 20k + miles on the sled has something to do with it? After all, it is 7 now

This is the first time that I can recall seeing any post about that seal blowing. But 20K miles is getting up there. But, then again, why that seal, which is right there by the breather/vent?
It is just the ol' Root Cause indoctrination left over from my N-Plant days. You never see the problem first. You only see a symptom of the problem. You have to ask; "Why?" at least three times to get to the root cause. For example:
Why did the seal Fail? = Possibly excessive Crankcase pressure.
Why could there be excessive Crankcase pressure? = possibly inadequate Crankcase ventilation
Why is there inadequate Crankcase ventilation? = Filter related Mod changed vacuum on Crankcase vent.
Don't get me wrong. The above is just an example. Your crankcase vent may be working fine. This is just to get you thinking about what might be the cause of a very rare seal failure. Why do this. Because in my Biz, we have proved time and time again, You never initially see the cause of the problem. You only see the symptom(s) of the problem.
You could start This failure's root cause investigation with:
Why doesn't the sled go forward = Oil on the belt
Why is there oil on the belt = Seal blew
Why did the seal blow = Excessive crankcase pressure or seal age related failure
Why isn't it seal age related failure = There are lots of these seals in use and No trend of failures
Why could there be excessive crankcase pressure? = inadequate vent?
Because it is so rare, just some food for thought on this seal failure.

Hey how big of deal was it to replace the seal? I am having the exact same problem with my 03 RX-1 with 7000 miles. I have been very puzzeled but after reading this post I think this is my problem as well. I just recently had a Yamaha shop install and air intake kit and now I have this problem, makes me wonder?? I do have a aftermarket filter on the breather. What do you guys think???
