Hesitation between 6-8000rpm

Hi,

I have an 04 RX-1 that during the last ride of the year last season used a couple more litres of fuel than usual. I didn't think much of it and planned on cleaning the carbs in the off season.

i cleaned the carbs(they were spotless) still tooked all apart and went over them completely while i had them out. i cleaned the coils and use dialect grease as well.

Machine starts, idles perfectly. once it hits 6000rpm it has a hesitation and works through it quickly if you open the throttle. once driving the hesitatin stays if you are in the 6000-8000rpm range if you open the throttle it runs fine until it returns to 6-8000rpm. It doesnt back fire or idle poorly, it engages fine and runs perfect till 6000rpm. Also no hesitation if held wide open off the line. It feels like a timming issue but there are no codes showing for a bad TPS sensor. The plugs are all burning as they should be.

Went for one ride this year and ran seafoam in the tank as well. Sled used a couple more litres than it is supposed to again.

Any ideas?

Hi,

The sled has a heavy hitter clutch kit. Nothing done besides that. Sled has ran great till this year. Clutches have been cleaned as well.

check exhaust donuts, exhaust leaks.

Clean carbs, all jets, ream the little holes with a piece of wire, or a welders tip cleaning tool. set A/F screw to 2 turns out.

Clean coils, do the dark test, even though they are clean you may have some that are bad, Take the top rubber ring off the coil run the sled and look into spark plug hole for arching and sparking.

Check your TORS and throttle cable setting.

thanks for the tips,the donuts are new this year. i have done evverything but take the carbs off again. I will pull them off again and check them again. Hopefully ill find something. do you think it could be the TPS?

Not likely, I think its still the pilots, you should be able to see down thru them, the side holes, and down thru the center. Use a wire from a wire brush to clean them out, If you cant push the wire thru the jet then its not clean enough. Remember to adjust the A/F screws to 2 turns out from lightly seated.
