Hi/Lo BEAM FIX and triple/triple

I think I figured out a fix for the lights. My hi beam is to high and lo beam does not reach far enough.
I think if I jump out the lights so they both come on at the same time, hi and lo, it would be perfect.
I'm not sure if the stator can handle that. Does anyone know if I will overload the stator or has done anything else for this fix. I have read the sticky on fixing the headlight, but I think this would be better if I can do it without frying anything.

Went riding with an old dinosaur this week,1998 Mach z Triple/triple 800, I'm impressed by the old school power. But I smoked it on the trail, hard pack soft slushy snow, you name it. We didn't go head to head on a lake,I think he would beat me there, and he also was able to go into the corners at almost full throttle and jump right out of them quicker than me but I would catch him right away. He only got about 60miles to the tank full and had many problems along the way. Thats 60 Miles at 100mph. But when it was running good, man those things scream. Might have sold him on the yamaha though. I think he's in the market for the Apex. Either way I am done riding with 2 stroke doos,I thought I had bad gas mileage!!!!!!!!!!!!!

1st thing i did to my apex was hid lights, i would never ever ever consider riding without them again. Best 175$ you will ever spend on your sled , worth every penny!!!

Where do I find these HIDs for a 2011 that you guys are talking about

I got mine from yamaha dealer, they are in the acc catalog or go to sledstart.com. They list for $225 but like i said i talked my dealer down to 175 cause i was buying some other stuff too

I got mine from ddm tuning for under 80 shipped, I have been using them for the third season and love them still doesn't fix the spread difference between hi and low but with the amount of light you have, it doesn't matter. Do a search, hundreds on here have installed them.

Theres lots of diffrent hid kits out there, i put cheap ones in my truck which sux so i went out and got the most expensive ones u can buy. U pay for whst u get. The sledstart ones are plug and play for the apex and are backed by yamaha. The pic of a apex on the cover of the box instead of a honda civic sold me. I notice no spread problems u speak of. I use hi for ditches low for trails and if im wfo i switch to low cause the fronts in the air. I wouldnt expect anything else unless it was a 89 exciter with movable light assembly:)

I have been meaning to ask this. So because they fit into the stock light pod the spread is still the same? So you basically run low beam all the time but have a much brighter light?

Can't really fix the split. Its due to the design of the headlight pod itself. Most of us set the headlight to where the bright is the setting we use the most. If set to where the lowbeam is just right the brights would be up in the sky tracking the space station. Setting the lights so the brights are in the right spot gives you the best result IMO. You then use the lows for oncoming traffic

I have never bought a kit that is not plug and play, not sure what that means, hook up positive and negative, plug in the rest.

The spread is less anoying with Hid lights because even on low beam, I can see further than I could on hi with the stock bulb. You will throw shaddows around the guy in front of you.

When my sled goes back together this time, I will be shaving doing some bulb adjustment to try to change the spread, this can not be done on a standard bulb but can be messed with on a HId because of how hi and low are controlled.
I'll post my results

Yeah i suppose u r right about plug n play,
Was just saying that no one is allowd to argue with me:) j/k but seriously a guy could prob get hid for like $45 but its nice to buy somthing reputable and made to fit with proper lenght wires and plugs. Any kit would work i suppose.
His original thread was about the spread witch i dont notice to much on my apex hids, maybe because i installed without the bulb bezel? Was driving the nytro tonight and it was horrible, high beams strait up n low beams at the skis.

Yup that's what I have granto, if I coupd just get them to stay on togerher it would be perfect. Don't know if stator can handle the current it would constantly draw though.
Just got some silver star ultras for now. On the back of the box they even admit they do not have long life though.

If you want to couple the high and low together get some PIAA bulbs. They will load the stator less with more light output than stock bulbs. They have something like a 55w consumption with a 110w output. A cheap HID like system.

While I didnt have a problem with the separation of the high and low beams, I did adjust the pod down a bit. Now my lows are perfect for daytime and I use my brights at night and just toggle them off for oncoming riders.

Didnt cost me anything, but HID's would be nicer.
