I hate to squawk without having hard evidence, but I just got back from my dealer who changed both wye pipes and all doughnuts on my 07 RTX with 2800 miles. We were chatting about the new stainless steel wye pipes from Yamaha, and why they didn't use them from the start. He had mentioned about how there was never a problem with the RX-1's because they were stainless steel. He quoted me on one sled he had in there and its high mileage when I immediately corrected him and said you mean 8500 miles. Uh-uh, 85,000 miles! He traded in for an apex. Now I don't know if it was all on the original engine or what but still 85,000 miles! I can't believe there was anything left!

This was coming from the mechanic at Cliff Rue Motors in Hibbing Mn. The next time I am back there I'm going to try and get more information and some sort of confirmation on this. I think he said the owners last name was Holstrom. Anyone in the area able to confirm or deny this?

Seems to me you would have heard something about this machine back at a milestone of say 50,000 miles.
Ya gotta figure a Dealer or owner would be making a huge thing about this!
Just my reasoning.

05 RX1s did not have stainless.

RX1 '05 shorties was the 1st year w/TITANIUM I know I had mine replaced, also the 1st MONO RA suspension which were REAL BAD!!! bushings, rails, front pivot arm, no zerks, RA cable, YAM covered everything under warranty I can't complain, they even replaced my MONO shock & track, OUCH $$$$ :yam:

Don't forget the rails cracking. I just replaced my Y pipes land donuts last year and used stainless.

Halstrand traded one in a few years ago with 28,000 on it??? Have not heard mark mention an 85,000 mile sled. I did see an early 80's phazer there one day with 28,000 miles on it - old guy was there picking it up and i asked him what kind of maintenance, he said slides and carbides.

Have to ask him next week.

Who, what, when, where, and how?

Show me the ODO...and some hard facts and verification.

If true, I guess I'll have to catch up.

I'm riding mine to 50,000.

85,000 is a mega-number!!!!

Think about it; if the person had an 03 RX-1, the person would have had to average over 14,000 miles a year.

I want to meet this super-man! ;)!

i once hear rumors of an old timer on an original phazer with 100k. had it sence it was new and this was like in 03 04 i heard this. he used it as his main sorce of trasport all winter goin to town and back from his camp like 50 miles out. heard he was from alaska. also heard he had rebuit it a half dozen or so times. he just crused and never realy went WOT.

befor the naysayers atack this i heard, almost identical but not pefect matching, from 3 differnt sorces. one was from a kid that lived in alaska.

not sure how much truth there is to the story but just relaying what i heard.

did the math and its not impossible. only like 40 miles aday and thats only takeing into count an 4 month season dec, jan, feb and march. and in alaska in sure its longer even here in the north east ive road as early as noveber 10th and as late as april 20th

Until any pictures are coughed up I am still trusting Hondo since his is documented to a tee.

This is true... Hondo's is well documented, and he deserves every bit of praise he has received --- very well deserved!!!! I am personally envious as I wish I could ride that often!

But I live in the same part of the world as Grizzly1, and I too have heard rumors of this high mileage sled, so let's let everything run it's course. There are many, many people who ride the amount of miles we all wish we had the time to ride and could accomplish such a feat..... I doubt anybody has tied or beat the legendary Hondo, but hey, anything is possible.......

Mike
