I'm getting high pitch noise sometimes when the phazer is idling. It goes away when I push throttle. The noise sometimes goes away for a while when I rock the machine side to side.
Would it be from the belt? How do I fix that?

The belt is one year old after the "shim and belt" fix for the reverse problem. BTW the reverse is still very problematic. Won't engage unless I jump up and down the sled like an idiot.

what does it sound like?

belt would squiel @ idle & go away as rpms increase.
clean belt & the area where the belt rides, both primary & secondary.

pcv valve? not even sure we have these.

it's not the fan running when you stop is it?
sometimes i hear mine when it's warm out or idle for a few minutes.

belt squeel. mine does it some times - my sons nytro does it as well (usually with a new belt.)

It's fairly loud constant high pitch squiel. Only happen when the machine is idling. goes away as soon as throttle is applied.

What do I clean the belt and primary and secondary clutch with? Just soap and water?

It's a pain to pick up the backend everytime I want to do reverse. I wish there's a real fix for that.

Acetone or laquer thinner. I wish I knew more about (I am a Ski-Doo clutch guy) the Yamaha secondary, but sounds like the secondary needs to be adjusted (shimmed?).

My guess---> Your belt is too tight. That is also causing your reverse problems. Does your belt sit flush with the top of the secondary clutch? That's to high for what Yamaha wants if it is. Is it the right belt?
You may have to shim your secondary 'open' a little to get that belt to drop down/loosen up.

with the reverse, i can just pull the handle bars back and the momentum pulls the sled back a bit and turns the track a bit. thats all that is needed for it to engage. no one notices what im doing and my doo friends dont think thers any issues with my phazer lol

same w/ yamahas here, i just rock the bars back to make it catch sometimes.

secondary, you put shims on the jackshaft on the outside or inside. book says sheave freeplay is .04"-.08". measure by pushing back the secondary/sheave & check distance between bolt & sheave.(including washers)

also check the secondary offset from the primary. hold a straight edge on the backside of the primary & push the secondary inwards. spec is .57"-.69"
