The new Hyfax I put on my sled two weeks ago are already toast again after 500 miles. I realize my taller lug track and the small contact patch of hyfax vs. the weight of the sled (XTX skid) is the cause of the wear problems. I generally ride in very good snow, but occasionally those long, straight, hardpacked trails come up and then the burning plastic smell comes on strong. I'm looking for a solution. The Hiperfax or Super Slippery slides and some scratchers seem like they would at least help quite a bit. Problem is- both of these slides are only made in the #20 profile, and most of the newer skids use the #27 profile. Has anyone out there put the 20 profile on their XTX (hyperfax or super slippery)? Any other ideas besides putting 6+ more wheels on the skid to relieve the pressure on the slides? Lets hear 'em.

How about replacing the six stock wheelies with six wheelies that are about 1" bigger diameter?

Doesn't the hyperfax warranty state that there only to be used with a fully clipped track???

You are correct Daranello- fortunately my 1.75" Ripsaw is fully clipped. The larger wheels are a possible option, and one I may have to look into more closely if the hiperfax are not an option. Any other input appreciated. Thanks guys

you could try some sort of ice scratcher. i would recomend the ski mount ones as they start their spray the furthest forward, and will benefit the track, hyfax and heat exchangers the best. if you mount them on the rear suspension rails and cant get them far enough forward, you will just be spraying your buddies and doing very little to alieviate your issue. ski

Thanks for all the tips guys. I'd like to see the pics if you find any Daranello- I kinda figure I will have to do both. After talking to Ski about his hyperfax I believe they will work on my sled, but I would still like to get some type of scratcher to help with lubrication. I'm trying to avoid wheels if I can, but if need be, I may have to do something like that. Funny thing though, last weekend when I really smoked that last set of sliders, the wear wasn't at the bends, it was even along the entire bottom of the skid, the bends included. Conditions on that particular trail were mainly to blame, but still- that could have ruined the weekend. I run my track sloppy loose too with the extros. At least 2" of sag with no weight.

BTW Ski- Is that a YZ-450F or a WR450F w/o the headlight in that avatar? I have a WR450 and have been considering getting a supermoto kit for it. Just wondering if you enjoy riding it on the roads?
it is a yz450f not the wr. i dont ride the roads, i play on the track. they are an absolute blast on the track. nothing is more fun than passing a 1000cc street bike in the infield at grattan raceway. they get you on the big straight (yeah, yeah) but when it comes to turning and holding corner speed. supermotos flat out rock!
with you having a wr really you only need 17" wheels, some rooad race tires, a 320mm front brake rotor and caliper relocator, and you are set for the street.
checkout www.misupermoto.com and come out to a test and tune day, i'll let ya throw a few laps with my ama replica racer. she's fun. i warn ya though... it is addictive. i assume no responsibilty if it makes you build one. LOL!

Cool man- Sounds like a good time. I sold my R1 last year because I just wasn't having as much fun riding on the roads any more- the track was a lot safer, but it's such a hassle to prep your street bike for a track day. Being able to go out and play with a supermoto bike sounds like a lot more fun, and seems like it wouldn't be as big a deal to meet tech inspection and still ride it on the street. I might have to take you up on that offer of the laps... I also absolve you of any responsibility for helping me find new and inventive ways to blow my money....
