I was looking around on ebay and there are a ton of turbos for sale on there. I was wondering if anyone has built there own? How hard would it be to buy the electronics from a company and piece a kit together? Save some money?

YamaMTX,
PM Ski-Dooin' it, as he is someone who recently built his own with passion. Might give you some insight into what is involved. http://www.ty4stroke.com/viewtopic.php? ... ht=#750687
Very fortunate to have this forum to turn to with all the knowledge and experience...

hahah.... yeah, I did one. it was with a motor swap as well, so I was sorta stuck with full custom anyways.. honestly, with all the trial and error, the money thing begins to go out the window. if your very mechanically inclined and got lots of time on your hands.. they are all possible.
just food for thought.. the turbo, at just over $1000 for a nice garrett, is one of the smaller costs when you start adding the pile of receipts from the hardware store. I bet I have over a grand in random parts, none over $10, that I didnt use. I am not saying dont do it. just saying. if you arent going to work on it hard, and for a long time, I wouldnt bother. I really slacked on mine and ended up with lots of issues early in the season and spent a LOT of time wrenching in the hills... rides cut short.. etc etc.
if you have the time, space and ambition, they are really not that complex.. if you get started, throw a thread up. Im sure most people on here have more info to share then you would know what to do with.
I got a few video's of mine I need to post up.. also slayed some little baby chutes yesterday with it.. going back up in a week to put down more... when you need over 200 hp in spring snow to make climbs.. its FUN!! also racing up hardpack hills at 80 is pretty fun.

Like skidoo-in it said the turbo is not the expensive part. I've seen lots of automotive guys build setups (including myself) cause they found a $100 diesel turbo and realize that the turbo is just the start, you get nickel and dimed to death with everything else and a miss-matched turbo is not worth the effort. You can save some money (if you don't factor your time in at least). I did my own cause i like doing it and wanted it done to my specs.
