I need some help...I am trying to replace two of the inner idler wheels on my wife's 2006 Venture, and I have the wheels out, but now I have a problem.
How do I get the wheels off of these collars?
Do I need a press?
These are parts #20 & #21 from the following fiche diagram:

I tried to knock them out using a socket and a hammer...but no luck. I don't want to pound on them too much and ruin the collars.

The upper idlers on the mono suspension presesnts a similar problem. A very snug interference fit on the upper pivot shaft.
When I have to remove them, I remove the circlip securing the bearing in the idler, and pull the idler off of the bearing, then I use a three jaw puller to pull the bearing off of the pivot shaft.
Do the idlers in your photo have removable bearings secureed by a circlip? If they do, I would try the method I described above.

When replacing the bearings in the upper Mono wheels, I have had success setting the wheel on the end of (2) 2 x 4's and driving the mount out from the other side with a rubber mallet or hammer. The shaft or mount should be in between the 2 x 4's. Then to install, pick a socket that matches the bearing inner race diameter and using a rubber mallet, pound the bearing on to the stop. I done a number of wheels like this with good success.

Why not use a little grease on the shaft to help it from sticking?

Snowmobileaddict: The wheels have the sealed bearings, so I can't pull the wheel off.
Gone_Blue: I did the socket/hammer trick...but it didn't seem to want to move. I have had it soaking in penetrating oil over night. I didn't want to pound too hard and mess up the collar.
Tapp1: This is the factory setup, and this is the first time it has been apart.

i always use a press, keeps me from damaging a shaft. any auto shop or maching shop should be able to press them off for you at little or no cost.

Well I am happy to report that after letting the wheels/collars sit with penetrating oil for 24 hours, I was able to use a hammer and socket to drive them apart without too much effort.
I used a bit of anti-seize when putting on the new wheels.
Got everything back together, and the venture is up and running again..
