I must be blind. But not seeing how to release brake side handle bar control unit so I can rotate. my goal is to rotate the control slightly- brake lever slightly lower to help me mount hand guards

Brake lever position
If memory serves me you have to remove the plastic cover which houses the light high/low beam switch, remove two Phillips screws, then you need to loosen the Allen head bolts which keep the lever tight to the bar.
