I've seen several different styles and some anodized some just polished billet aluminum, then there's the Fabcraft composite wheels which are suppose to be tough, lighter and cheaper then billet . Which is better, running 3 wheels, 4 wheels or running only 2 center wheels and why for which conditions ? I've read on here that some folks have problems with the upper idler wheels icing up ? Does the billet wheels with the rubber on the outer edge solve this problem and are they better for rear wheels in case's where it might be marginal conditions occasionally, the thought that the rubber would protect it from being busted by a piece of gravel or some other foreign object? So if you guys could post your thoughts and experience on the pro's and con's of various wheels , and or suggestions for best package deal for relocation axle and 8" rear wheels to run the stock 162x16 track on the Apex. I think this would be really helpful for alot of guys/gals here on the forum.
If you run 2 inner wheel's it allows the sled to roll over better common in mountain machines.
I plan on running 2 center whhel's on my apex mtn.
Rich motorsports sells relocation axle's and wheel's.
The rubber on the wheel's is only needed if you run studs.

roll over being less track resistance from the rear wheels ? How does the 2 rear wheels do in other conditions like mild trail riding, not groomed trails but flat landing it and playing in the tree's etc. or having to ride to the mountain 10 miles away on flat and some places semi hard snow ?

i can tell you this tracks last longer with four wheels. as every track on hp sleds that i have seen go bad is right at the spot were the fourth wheel should be. torqe and hp is spred over four drivers at the frount of the sled. thus sucking the lone spot in at the rear of the track in at the rear this costant flexing in and out breaks the track rods in a short time. and for this reson i allways is stall a fourth wheel in every sled i have before driveing them.

so theoretically the 2 wheels in the rear would put more pressure on the outsides of the track ? How long does a track last with say a 2 wheel set up ? 3000 miles of hard riding , less or more ? How about a three wheel set up how long do they last ? approximately ? Anyone been running the two wheel set ups for very long with good results ?

I noticed that there was only 3 wheels on my rx and was wondering if there was a kit I could get to add the 4th wheel.

Dealers have 4th wheel kits as well as aftermarket dealers.

Yeah alot of places make the 4th wheel kit/ yamaha might even ? Well I'll be getting all fabcraft composite wheels on my Mnt. Apex in Oct. when it arrives and i'll post a review on how they do after a thousand miles or so . The only problem with Fabcraft is they only come in silver and black.......red and blue would be nice......LOL

brother put 3000km with only 3 wheels on his viper before he had to change outers and bearing on the inner. i had a 4th wheel kit i had bought from yamaha for my 01 sxr 500 but it already had it so he put it on the viper this year.
cant be as bad as one of my uncles buddies cat. after every ride he has to change one or the other outer wheel cause you can smell it burning. never checked to see if it had inner ones but it was one of the wide track cats.
