I have ridden a pro and they are awesome sleds, but not quite enough to get me off the 4-stroke. Can't beat the 4-stroke powerband. I put about 1600 miles on my Nytro the first year I had it (2008) and it was the most fun I had on a sled. Even stock it still kept up with most sleds, it was just a little slower getting to the top.

Same here.
As I explained above Super Sled, I ride with a buddy who has a Pro. Out of the box compared to a stock Nytro, night and day, no question about it hands down the Pro. With the changes that I have done to my sled, no way, I'll take the Nytro.

I've not ridden a Pro RMK but all I hear are good things when it comes to handling and being able to throw it around.
I just got in from walking the dog and had tried picking up the front of my Nytro. Dang! Then I went over to lift the front of my wife's '01 MXZ 600 with estart. It didn't feel light but I could at least get the front end up off the ground without busting a nut. I recall checking out an XP in '08 when they first showed up. I could not believe how far I could pick up the front end in the showroom. I was truly amazed.
Anyone know how much the Nytro motor weighs? I know my IQR motor is around 70 lbs without the clutch, carbs and y-pipe. If I go the lightened Nytro route I need to get weight off the front end. Sad thing is the reason I know the weight of my IQR motor is because it is in a box.... awesome.
I think I need to be smacked upside the head for even still considering a 2-stroke.

Floats, skinz, skis, and battery. Go to a U cooler and you just shaved a good amount of weight off the front end. All that cost quite a bit of money though.

I believe that will work out to around:
Floats -5 lbs
Skinz -4 lbs
battery -11 lbs depending on what you go with
skis -0 to -2 lbs just a guess since I'd go 8" wide.
That totals 20 lbs off the front not counting skis. That's good. I also like the removing the foam idea and what Caleb did to strip a lot of stuff off.
Thanks to Breeze for posting weights and photos on BCR. http://backcountryrebels.com/showthread ... 294&page=5

The Pro chassis is way superior. Sorry but it's true. The best option is get a Pro with an extended warranty. If it blows then you get a new motor. Try it some time; the Pro rides awesome. The sled feels light and it doesn't fight the rider. It actually responds to the slightest rider input by correspondingly going in the direction it is pushed to go.
What do you ride when the pro is in the shop? Any yamaha performs better than a set of snow shoes when your pro is blown up.
It's never been in the shop, fyi. And if it blows I'll use the warranty. And I love snow shoeing too so that's not a bad alternative to sledding
Hey, I'm a die hard Yammi guy and always will be. I wish Yamaha would just build a lighter off trail sled again, but it won't happen. I waited long enough for a light Yamaha off trail sled and gave up waiting.
I love what you guys do with the weight removal as its so crucial. Why can't Yamaha just hire you guys to design the off trail segment, lol!
Our Yammi dealer just bought the polaris dealership
out. We will see next winter what the shop is full of won't we. The back room is where the real money is made.

Even with the skinz front end, timbersled skid and a turbo a nytro won't handle nearly as well as a pro. I know, I've ridden both back to back same day. My pro rmk did spend time in the shop, just like every other two stroke. Unfortunately if you keep your nytro and start modding it it will also require more upkeep. The skinz front end in particular has had some well known issues with heim joints and there's been some issues with various light weight batteries. Turbos are not turn key and go like most people think.

I definetly won't be going with a turbo or supercharger. I need to research batterys and front ends. I see Zbros also offers a forward swept a-arm kit. I was thinking that welding some new, upper shock mount ears to the subframe would be a good way to avoid their dumb cantilevered upper shock bolt. I also like that the Zbros uses straight tie rods.
Did a search and it looks like a Nytro motor is 111lbs. It is supposed to be only 8 lbs lighter than an Apex motor. The Nytro motor is around 40lbs heavier than the 600 in my IQR.

I don't disagree the Nytro will never handle as good as a Pro. But when you refer to Heim joint failures, have you heard of any 5/8" failures? Every kit since the initial failures has been 5/8" and they are installing 5/8" in any of the original kits, so is it really a problem?
Batteries I don't disagree a bit either and my one and only Yamaha tow out (in 5500 miles) was enough to make me love my heavyer battery.

Z-bros. have also has issues with their front end kits with broken ball joints and critical nuts and bolts loosening up on their own. Lets face everything has upkeep. They were even having problem with the Z-bros POO front end bending but i have not come accross any yamaha front ends bending.
I have read about 1 - 5/8" Heim joint breaking on the skinz kit but there was no information on how or under what circumstance it broke. I am not sure if someone was just spreading rumors to not. I am sure their are people out ther that can break 3/4" heims joints too.
With TS front end using 5/8" heims in the lower arm for quite a while now with not problems. I think the issue will be fixxed as soon as people update their older kits to the 5/8" heim.
People were having issues with the skinz kit using the origianl 1/2' and updated 1/2" heim joints. Not sure why they did not just recall and replace the 1/2" joints in the first place but there are still people out there that are riding on them with no problems. I for one wouldnt be.

Are the heims designed to be used as a lower ball joint? Seems like all the aftermarket kits use heims while the OEM sled parts are designed differently and don't seem to have the breakage issues. Maybe heims are required so things can be lighter?

I think you would have a really hard time finding someone with more miles on there Skinz front end than me and I'm still running the 1/2" heims. There is more to the storys than I was just riding down the trail and it snapped. The only one I snapped I am fairly confident something else would have broke if it didn't and with just the snapped heim I was able to re install it and ride it out.

Polaris gripper skis are good for a 4 pound weight savings (total compared to the MTX skis) and handle well.
Another trick to lighten the front end, is to empty out the nose bag and fill it with bubble wrap. Then I put the spare belt, tools. etc in the tunnel bag.

And we all know if anyone could truly field test something it is you. We all know, no matter how much testing is done, it will never compare to the real world. My sled is a good example to the toughness of the Skinz front end. Direct hit from another sled, front end fine, sub frame bent, shock broke. Plus I am still running the 1/2" joints.
