How long is VP C14+ fuel good for?

Figured you guys would be the race fuel experts. I bought this 5 gallon can 3 years ago from CBperformance when I bought my sled and i inject it with the nitrous. They made it sound like it would last 3-4 years with no issues. I opened it once filled a 1 gallon jog that I took on trips, the can has been sealed since then in the VP 5 gallon can that it comes in.

The local race gas guys tell me its junk but they sell race gas, I know CB performance knows thier stuff so I'm looking for the tie breaker opinion.


If it is junk, what happens to race fuel, doe sit degrade into pump fuel octane, could I use it up in my sled or how would I get rid of it. Thanks!

alot of a fuels swhelf life depends on what kind of container it is stored in. If it is plastic not very long. metal will last a lot longer. 6-8 months is all I'd store it for if I wanted it to retain its octane. It just isn't worth the few dollars you save against potential motor damage.

I'd run it out in my truck.....

I had some leftover race gas in my sled last year on my first ride it set off my knock sensor.

ps. at the level of boost I was running 91 oct Premium won't set it off...

I have detuned my nitrous from the 80hp shot to the 60hp shot and I was going to run 91 in the main tank if I planned on running the nitrous for a buffer of saftey anyway. So I don't really need the octane just need to know if its ok to burn up in the sled without nitrous just to get rid of it and get some fresh stuff. Thanks!

Sorry to rob you of your post kinger but I was wondering the same thing about the jug I have in which was fresh last February, then I was going to use it and transfered it to a VP Fuel container and ended up not using any of it. Now I've emptied half of it in my sled, anyone have any comments on how good that fuel would be now?

i look at it this way,it's not worth the 50 bucks to hurt the engine.if it's more than a few months old use it in the snowblower and save your engine

Use it in your sled just treat it like regualr gas. if it is leaded make sure to shake it up well because the lead will separate from the the mixture and sit at the bottom of the container.

I had a 5 gal of c12 only 6 mounts ago and I would not used it in my turbo sled .Not worth the chance of burning up a engine on high boost.Some thing that long in a can that you have must be stail to the max.

Absolutely contact VP's via e:mail. They'll answer you quickly.
I asked the same question on 5 gal can of Q16 earlier this season.
If it sits in the sled, the light ends of the fuel evaporate quickly. The O levels in oxygenated fuels goes down rapidly, but........ he said if it's kept in the original can sealed tight, it could last a long long time. Well over a year. It has to be sealed and sealed well. Not stored in the sled tank.
I amagine all fuels are somewhat different.
