Is the bender turbo real loud ?

What it need in skill to install it ?

Is the lag is noticable with the rear mount ?

And is it worth it to buy a used turbo

thanks

Is it 'real loud'? - No, but it is certainly louder than stock.

Skill to install? - Not difficult with proper tools. Bender has done a very good job of making the kit modular, making the install much easier (in my opinion).

Lag? Can't say, I've never ridden a Bender. Would also depend on how old the kit is, and which turbo comes with the kit ( I believe the earlier Bender kits had a journal bearing turbo, but don't quote me on that).

Worth buying used? Like anything used, it depends on the condition/price. The only real wear item on a turbo is the turbo itself (shaft play, etc.) If you're thinking of buying used but don't know what to look for on the turbo, take it to someone qualifed to inspect it and get their opinion.

Also, Amsnow did an article last year that detailed the install of a Bender turbo. Try and find a copy, it will give you a pretty good idea of what's involved...

I agree with everything Lakercr just said. Also I have the Amsnow article and it helps.

I would like to expand on the lag question. I have a Bender rear mount. With my current configuration I have a full 10 lbs of boost within 15 feet of the starting line. This is a seat of the pants estimate as I have never actually measured it. The boost builds very quickly to be at 10 lbs that fast. Are the front mounts faster? I have no idea. I have never rode one. For me it doesn't matter. I am a mountain rider. It is very rare that I would want 10 lbs that fast as I cannot get traction and I dig BIG holes if I take off that fast.

The acceleration is smooth and it's not like at 15 feet it just goes BAM and takes off. It feels like normal acceleration only BIGGER!!

All of this being said clutching makes a BIG diferrence on how the motor loads and spools the turbo. I am not smart enough to tell you why but I know from playing with my clutching that there is a HUGE diferrence in how one setup works to the next.

I agree. If you are going to drag race you won't like the Lag, but mountain riding the Lag does not bother me at all because like Spray said "Don't want to dig a hole". It is very smooth and fun.
The sled sounds good, really good, not any louder than a piped 2 stroke.
The install is not hard. Take your time and use all the Tips people posted on this Forum.

I'm not sure at this time.

i've heard that someone near my place have possibily a Used bender turbo to sell.

It's always a big money question. And to put more doubt, i'm reading post about octane and boost, and yes, except when i ride in town or near, get good gaz seem pretty easy.

But when we go riding in the mountain (like almost every week-end, we where riding between 150 and 250 km in wood. I always have a 2 gallons of gaz with me, but sometime we must refuel at a small camp where he keep gaz in drum. (really ot sure about freshness)

i really dont need more than 200 HP. :D

Did the consumption raise with turbo.

Spray, very good explanation of a rear mount in a mountain scenario. Couldn't have said it better myself. It is just too cool! I used to own a car (Porsche 930 Turbo) that was notorious for turbo lag but once you learned how to drive it it was fine. Still the funnest car I have ever owned. Tundra, when you're producing 200HP you're consuming 200HP worth of fuel. Having said that it still gets better gas mileage than the 800 2 smokes I ride with.

Sound is a little louder than than a r1 with a pipe.
Lag would only be a concern on a drag race with no traction loss. On snow it won't make any diference.
Fuel mileage just find the leanest spot on the a/f meter try to stay in that area, and clutch it heavy and it will give better milage than a non turbo.

I only trail ride, no drag or radar runs, and I find the exhaust to be very loud and tiring. I ride with ear plugs and find it impossable to ride without them. I also find it a bit embarassing to be making so much noise around the general population. If I was to do it again I would go with some kind of muffler system :ORC

The MCxpress rear mount is not loud at all. Its amazing how well that short conical muffler attenuates the sound. When I first saw the muffler I thought Oh great, this is going to be loud. Then I tried yelling through it and hardly any noise came out the other end. I could hardly believe it.
