How many have changed gearing on an n/a viper/7000?

Short track gearing is the same 21/49. I am new as well and follow you guys religiously. Awesome info. In my short 1 month of owning my sled I am convinced the gearing is way too low. I will be replacing as a spring project along with a few bolt on! Hurry up and get this figured out so I have an easier time when I do it!!! As I said you guys are great!

That's good to know, I'm getting new take off gears and chain from an 1100 turbo, there's a big abundance of them. Time will tell on the outcome.

Only thing I would be skeptical of is if it's a CAT chain or Yamaha chain. There is a dfference if you look at the plates of the chain.

The XF1100 I think would be a cat chain and gears....that is why when I ordered my 22 tooth top gear, an Arctic Cat gear was sent to me....this was because the Viper was new and the guy figured they were the same.

My M7000, which started as an XF, had a Borg Warner 21/49 set in it when I went to put a set of Team hyvos in last year. 90p - 13w chain.

Ran the sled last weekend a fair amount and 85 mph it was dead in its tracks, got there very quick but completely stopped gaining. Got extra wheels and new slides on it so don't think that's the issue. Clutches are burning hot and show signs the belt is slipping and belt is probably an inch from the top of the primary. Pulled the primary cover and spring off and moving the moveable sheave it seems to have a fair amount of drag throughout the entire motion, no belt dust anywhere. Thinking the primary is binding up or has a tight bushing. Dropped it off at the dealers, they're gonna pull the clutch apart and see if there is an issue with the clutch. I want to make sure the clutching is all working top notch before I start changing gearing otherwise i don't think it'll be a very accurate test.

This is the Cat primary correct?

There is some thing wrong some where. My 2014 with just a can in good conditions will hit 100. Thanks for the update let us know more as you go.

Will do, I think the gearing would've got me to that 100 range, but like you said there's something going on. No sense changing anything until I know it's working right, then we'll know whether or not the gearing is going to benefit it.

Got the sled back from the dealer today, not exactly sure what they did to the primary clutch but whatever it was it worked. went to a fresh plowed gravel road, it was all snow covered. Last year at the end of the season in these conditions the sled would've ran 85-86, first pass I was on and off the throttle the whole way but could tell the clutching was smoother and not so wound up running crazy high rpm when just cruising. The next 3 full pulls it ran 98mph, last pull ran 99, rev limiter starts to creep in at 92-93, at 96 it's steady rev limiter, just creeps up a few more notches. At 98 mph it's pinging hard so looking like that's all the stock 21/49 gearing will do. So whatever was going on with the primary was throwing it off close to 15 mph. Hoping to get a little heavier weights just to see if there's any left in the stock gearing, not sure if I'll try that or not, then I'll try the gearing. In case I didn't mention earlier, sled is an xf7000, 137" track with 144 studs, 250 pound rider (me). Very happy to see a simple solution can make such a big difference!

I buddy of mine who has a XF 7000 said he gained 5 mph on the top end when he put on his scratcher's. I cant remember what he said the top mph was. I believe it was in the 90's.

There was a service bulletin on them. If hitting rev limiter dealer installed 60 grams. This was a free upgrade.

Where are the extra wheels front of skid or middle? What clutch kit are you running? I noticed on my sled when its on the stand it takes alot to spin the track by hand where as my f6 it rolls alot better.
