How many vipers

Wow that is 4 times the number my dealer quoted me 2500 units for 2014. One magazine even speculated it could be come an instant collector item due to scarcity. I will have to do some fact checking.

I am just thinking - by building a new sled (chasis) that already exists in these kind of #'s the R&D has be 1/2 or less than brining out a new line.

at 10,000 units and each Yammy and A/C making just $1,000 per unit thats $10,000,000.00 each to the bottom lines.

Especially for Yamaha adding to its line up without having to re-tool a line to build them. They are already producing the motors just a bump in production line capacity

There is alot of development cost with the new sled. Obviously same chassis, but from what I know the front cooler is different, the engine braces are different and are Cast(tooling$$$). Also the Electronics on this machine are different. The ECU is not the mitibushi that yamaha has used the past 5 years. I beleive the gas tank was redesigned to work with the exhaust. New coolant tanks, etc etc. All adds up.

Well I didn't say there weren't any development costs but compared to a whole new sled like they did with the nytro ( the 1st total redesign since they went from the pogo v-max to trailing arms sleds) it is a lot cheaper. When they did the RX-1 they left the rear alone - tunnel and no action suspension were from the sx and srx lines and then the Apex and vectors were the same as RX's just new steering gate location, body panels and fuel injection.

It would be almost impossible for Yamaha to have any less money into the development of the viper. Hopefully they are investing it in developing their own sled, or at least some new engines.

In talking with the yamaha rep when I did my demo ride we got talking about prototypes compared to production sleds. Idk the exact number of protos made but the said that there is roughly $200,000 invested in each prototype sled. Doesn't take long for a lot of money to get tied up in a hurry. And knowing yamaha I do feel that the added time it's taking for these sleds to be made I think it's a safe bet that yamaha is def making improvements on the already awesome procross chassis. For an ltx se coming in at right around $13k and the "true yamaha" apex at $15k I'll take a viper any day even if it may not be perfect. I'm sure a lot of people think the same as me and that is why so many of these sleds are being sold. Like stated..even if yamaha only makes $1000 on each sled..doesn't take long to get in the profit range there.

Contacted yamaha corporate, they said actual numbers are proprietary. For the exact reason being discussed here potentially letting the profit margin "cat out of the bag" so as to not get caught up in insider trading scam. We need a plant mole to count them for us. Did see an article (previously mentioned) about real low production numbers
