I have been reading about these overheating issues and the tors issues....im just trying to get an idea of how many are having these problems? Are the cooling fins on the bottom of the sleds this year in the same place as last years models?? Did people report these tors issues last year? I havn't been able to ride my sled yet, and all these early reports are making me nervous.

The tors issue could be as simple as too tight a throttle cable. It needs slack so the initial movement of your thumb trips the little switch in the throttle lever assy. That said, no one has come back and said anything about defective switches etc. So this is likely a very simple fix, so simple you could call it a non problem

Overheating,
Some have added coolers to RX1 an Warriors. Not sure yet on the 3 cyl models. Mr Sled said something about it in chat for the 4 cyls. I will try to ask him tonight.
Also it is a light that may go on pretty early. At lest a few have put on gauges

The tors issue is a dealer prep issue. This should be looked at and set when the dealer sets up the sled! If your dealer has this too tight it's nothing that a 10mm wrench and 5 minutes of your time can't fix!

As far as overheating you can't compare the RX-1 to the Vector as they are two different sleds. I would say there is no issue with the Vector. There were some issues in low snow conditions with RX-1's & Warriors but the main one was the RX-1 Mountain when ridden in low snow or down a frozen trail! Hope this helps!

I had the light come on but only with low snow conditions, with my Warrior. But that is a very common ocurance with the longer tracked sleds. Every long track I have ever owned has had the same ocurance in low snow conditions. I added the mountain cooler to mine and never had that problem again.

Hmm....is the cooler thats in front of the track the main cooler and the ones under the running boards the secondary? Or are they all just as important? What is the mountian cooler and where is it mounted? I have a Rage....which is a long track.....wondering if i should just put this mtn cooler on now or wait and see.......

Under the rear of your tunnel you will see a cross over tube. That comes out and a rear cooler goes in. But I would wait and see what the word is on the 3 cyls first. Check with the experts if you are going to stud.

I am not sure if you would call the front the main or not. To me it is all part of a system.

The front & side coolers are equally important. The mountain models had an update available which replaced the crossover tube in the rear of the tunnel with an actual heat exchanger instead of just a crossover tube.

Edit: Also the mountain cooler will not work on the short track models (121").

Never been a fan of studs.....not a good situation when one lets go into a cooler. It's good to know that there is a option if I do have a overheating issue....
Where i ride most of the time in michigan....its great but there are those weekends that snow conditions are not all that. I came from a fan cooled sled to the Rage, so all this liquid cooling stuff is new to me.
Is that mountian cooler a pain to install??

srxspec is one of the most highly regarded tech guys here. He is more or less telling you not to worry. Keep an eye on the forum as we get into the season with these new motors and you will be fine.
One thing you could do, say you hit a logging area where they plowed it down to dirt. Walk off trail and get some armloads of snow and pack it on to your running boards. That could likely help you more than a rear cooler in that particular condition

I have already had the Overheating problem on my RS Venture. +2 degrees celcius and touring with the family on at 20 to 40 mph. Had to keep throwing snow on the running boards to keep the light out. Have not seen it come on while solo riding. Possibly since I ride quite a bit faster solo. Snow condition were average at the time (not all powder but not all hardpack either). I think I will need an optional cooler this spring when the snow conditions become really hardpacked and the temperature starts to rise.

I am really concerned about this. Yamaha should have learned the lesson by now when it comes to cooling the 4-strokes.

By the way I have also had the code 84 TORS error occur but it may have to do with the fact that I rotated the Throttle assembly down for a more comfortable throttle position. Have not seen it come back on since I have moved it back to the factory position.

Yamie rider. Just loosten the 10 MM nut and go 1-2 turns clokwise with the threaded cable end at the carb bracket, re-tighten lock nut. That should be the END of your tors problem and you should be able to adjust your throttle lever where you want.

Then riding 2 up at slower speeds you are prolly not throwing up enough snow at your side exchangers. Here is a link to another forum where Cat and Pol riders have the same problem as you, it is certainly not unique to Yam OR the venture. They solved it with ice scratchers.

Before I put the rear cooler on my Mountain, I put ice scratchers from Mountain Performance, they work great. Now with the rear cooler, it doesn't even comes close to being hot. On these RX1's, Warriors, and Rage's, I would install a cooler ASAP. I think that they are just to close to the edge. :4STroke:

Tork

Last spring I sold my 2001 Venture 600 with over 6300kms on it and never saw the light on once. That machine saw me drive over glare ice one day at 15mph for 18 miles and never saw the light at all. However, my old Venture had a rear cooler and a shorter track.

I guess what I am saying is why for the sake of $100 why didn't Yamaha install one on there and solve us all the headache. After all these are 4-strokes which run hotter anyway and with a longer track it only makes sense to have the rear cooler there.

tors code 84

I have an 05 rage and the tors has come on 2 times I will check the free play in the cable and set to spec's. If it works thanks for the info!! ;)!
