How needy are the exup valves?

This is my first year prepping any sleds with the exup system. (13 apex and 12 xtx)
How often do these valves need to be adjusted? Annually? Every couple years? Never?
I've seen the video on how to do it. Just wondering what to expect.
Thanks

Annually for sure...

Definitely annually, and I am on my third set of cables on my '13 XTX. Noticed a loss in top end, and mileage= broken cable.

I had broken cable at 5500 miles need to check annually. I think it has to do with if you ride on any salted roads mine were rusty. Wish they were made out of stainless cable, I think they would last longer.

Not on bit of rust on my cables or any other part of it but it only takes a few bolts to check it. Stainless is always nice.

Seems to be a lot of variation on this subject. My 2012 XTX has about 5500 miles. I've checked the adjustment 3 times and it has always been very close. Cables are in great shape still. Dad has a 2011 XTX, same story. Seems like there has to be something different in riding conditions/storage/trailering causing some to have rusted/broken cables so quickly, and others going multiple seasons without even needing to adjust.

2 sets of cables on mine, and would have been a 3rd if I could have found a set. I rode all of last season with mine disconnected and saw no difference in power, mpg, or mph. I tied mine in the full open position and left it.

i was thinking the same thing and heard the same thing. I guy I know just every apex he owned he removes it altogether and fabs up a plate..swears by it. I may try it.
10000 kms on my apex never even looked at the cables

So as it turns out, I had a b!tch of a time getting the 2 5mm Allen head bolts off the valve. Had to tortch the fwd bolt off, and in the end, the head snapped off anyway. The rear bolt wouldn't budge and I rounded it out. I was able to move the cover enough to see that the top cable was broken. So it's off to Pats Yamaha to take advantage of the YES warranty!
