how to get hotgrips hot fast

installed my old bars on with the wire from the new bar kit gets hot fast half to go for a ride and see if heat is controlable feels like my buddys rx1 handbar heat this is not tryed and proven yet so use caution if your going to try this theory just throwing this idea out thereseem to work in the shop tryedboth ways with the wire and without the wire it does get hotter with the wire

but hay, you could burn something up because the amp draw is too high having the old grips wired in series, they are a different resistance!

Makes sense too, because if it was just a series jumper rewire, dont you think Yamaha would have done just that instead of making all those bar/grip assemblies?

O.K., I've been doing some thinking on this one and here is what I've come up with.
The 06' grips are ~2.2 Ohms each and wires in series. This means that there is 4.4 Ohms resistance in the circuit. The "new" ones are ~6.8 Ohms per grip. Assuming 12.0 volts D.C. heres the math.

06' (Stock)
Watts= Volts ^2 / Resistance, = 12.0^2 / 4.4 Ohms = 32.7 Watts Total.
Amperage= Watts / Volts, = 32.7W / 12.0 V = 2.73 Amps.

06' (Stock in Parallel)
R(parrallel)= (R1XR2)/(R1+R2), = (2.2X2.2)/(2.2+2.2),= 4.84/4.4= 1.10 Ohms.
Watts= Volts^2 / Resistance, = 12.0^2 / 1.10 Ohms = 130.9 Watts Total.
Amperage= Watts / Volts, = 130.9 W / 12.0 V = 10.9 Amps.

07' (Stock Parallel)
R=(R1XR2)/(R1+R2), = (6.8X6.8)/(6.8+6.8),= 46.24/13.6=3.4 Ohms.
Watts= Volts^2 / Resistance, = 12.0^2 / 3.4 Ohms = 42.35 Watts.
Amperage= Watts / Volts, = 42.35 W / 12.0 V = 3.53 Amps.

So as you can see if you wire your 06' bars in parallel (and set them at max heat) you will be drawing over 10.0 Amps which I believe is what the fuse is rated for. Also you will have over 3 times the wattage to the grips. They will get soft and melt the glue that holds them on. So I would not recomend this practice. Now one thing you could do is add resistors to the circuit to increase the resistance to something close to the "new grips" this will increase you wattage from ~32.0 Watts to ~44.0 Watts. Definently will help however the fact that the element is much smaller and does not include the end will not make them equal in warmth to the "new" ones.

I plan on trying the added resistor method. My sled and a friend of mines Viper. He bought the grips and ends before the heat issue was known. Because of my custom hand gaurd mounts I want to try and keep these bars at least until I bend them. I will let you know how it works out.

didnt the rx1 have less residence than o6 apex there hotgrips got hot talk to yamaha all you get from them is a french lady that tells you you hooked them up wrong according to there tech people and to talk to your dealer basically they give you the run around

so if you use the 06' bars with the wiring harness you have a chance of melting the grips and blowing the fuse? if they get that hot you wouldn't run them on max anyways right?

If somebody blew that 10 amp (which it leasily could do) fuse and stuck in say a 20 amper, then possibly you could burn up the wiring harness.

Ill be testing tomorrow....I dont see why we cant turn them down....If they are this hot we wont need to run them on HI anymore....

why would glue melt ect?...hot grips have gotten this hot on old yammies for many yrs,...they are riveted into place also....

If i blow a fuse then we will know...Im sick of cold hands guys....someones gotta try something since yammie charged us good money for same ole cold hands...Im sick of it.

your absolutely right, Yamaha didn't put any effort into this, Yamaha should donate millions to this website for all the problems the good people on this site have fixed

FYI...yammie wishes this site never existed!..trust me..lol.

after all,we are the ones who find ever tiny little BUG with their products..and then we post 800 numbers ect ect...Personally i love it....but you gotta beleive yammie and MOST DEALERS HATE this site!..

luckily we have some very smart die hard sledders here on TY4.....I like to think of us as a well informed consumer....you know a TY rider will always have the best running sled around...and we are much more informed on the apex then most dealers,or even customer service at yammie!
