I'm going over my XTX seeing where everything is and how to access certain components. I want to get to the oil filter and need to remove the lower side covers and bottom cover. The manual says to remove the "quick fasteners" and doesn't explain how this is done. Do you pry it off with a screw driver or push it in? First sled I've had with these fasteners.

It's the round fastener's that the screw driver is pointing to.

You could use that screwdriver, I have one with a bent tip that I use. Those things basically pull out. Put the head of the flat top under the flat side and give a little twist. They are like wall anchors, when the screw in inserted, the ends push out.

Do one and you'll see....

Thanks guys. New sled and all. Just didn't want to go ripping stuff apart without knowing what I was doing first.

Just make sure that the screwdriver is not too small, then you will just damage the plastic screw.
The screwdriver in your picture looks OK.
Then make sure to fill up your coolant reservoir to the specified level...:)

Yeah, I noticed that too. Typical shoddy dealer set-up. This is why I take the time to go over the machine before the season starts.

new sled and changing oil filter?

or just learning your way around?

I just want to know how to get to it once I put 500 miles on it. I won't feel much like learning my way around when it's 20 degrees out. No heat in the garage. LOL!

If I were you I would order a bag of spare fasteners. They can damage pretty easily and are very cheap to replace.

I don't know if this is any different than what was said above, but after I pop up the center piece I put my screwdriver under the round piece and it seems to come out easier.

Like buddy said, it never hurts to have some spare ones on hand for those that get tore up.

For only $29.95 I'll sell you a can of FRS (Fastener Removal Spray). A product so outstanding it will make this task virtually effortless. And, if you act within the next 20-minutes I'll throw in a bottle of FRG (Fastener Replacement Gel) for an additional $19.95!

Offer good while supplies last.

At a $1 a pop, they can get expensive if you rush the job or keep taking them out over and over again.

G.M. uses a similar "dart" on their 08' trucks. I think its for the plastic fender inside the front fender. I believe they are much cheaper. They are a little different but will work.
