I am looking for instructions on doing a total suspension setup on my06 Apex mountain. I need to know what is affected when I change each of the front/rear shockes & springs. What does the limiter strap change? What about setting the torsion spring? How about the control rod? Is the a source for step by step instructions?
I am 240 lbs and have not experienced any bottoming but the hyfaxes are already worn at 500mi. I installed Simmons skis and eliminated 95% of the darting. I generally am impressed with the ride but find the machine a bit tippy in deep powder. Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm looking for the same info. Had to replace my hyfax at 900 miles last year. I weigh 145 lbs. Installed ice scratchers.

Setup

I've been told on setting up that it really depends on the rider. What they like, how they expect the sled to react, all that stuff. Now, I'm by no means an expert, but what I've done in the past is buy a sled, ride it and then change ONE thing at a time. Then you have something to reference. Then go from there and dial the sled into what you like. Just takes time. Time is something I don't seem to have eneough of as I live in Wisconsin and travel 12 hrs to get to the steep and deep. Anyways, hope this helps somewhat. If there was an answer to your question, I'd sure like to hear it also!!!

I shortned my straps 1 hole, eliminated darting, and helped with trenching, Installed the Nitro bump stops on the rear springs and this year I am trying the heavier rear springs for my weight (250)

I have all three stiffer springs and scratchers on rails for a bump stop. May change limitor strap one hole. Rear os sll the way down to get alot of transfer. Like to bring front end up in the air.

First off, at a weight over 220 i would run the heavy'r torsion spring from Yamaha. Also, the bump stop eliminates that spring from completly collapsing which makes for a comfy'r ride also adding a little better rebound, but mainy reduces bottoming of the rear of the skid.

The stock skid in the Apex actually works really well, and doesnt take alot of setting up to get a decent ride. Its weakest part is the shocks, and the lack of adjustment ot the shocks. What i mean i for different rider styles and riding weights theres not much you can do with a non rebuildable shock, its valved one way and cannot be changed, which IMO SUCK's !

Sucking up, or tightening the limiter straps will raise the front of your rear skid which: Will reduce ski lift, but at the same time add ski pressure.

For the author of this thread, i would get the heavy'r torsion springs from Yamaha first before changing to many things, they make a big diff for people over 220 and keep the skid from compressing to earlier. With your skid collapsing to early will enhance the tippy feeling your having IMO.

Try setting the torsion spring adjuster to its stiffest setting, but i tried that last year (im 215) and i found it to still not be stiff enough for my weight.

JJWickenhauser had great advice by saying: "Change one thing at a time", like baby step's. Im also no expert, but i played with my stock skid a ton last year and got it working pretty well. If you start trying too many diff settings at once you'll end up going backwards. (LOL,speaking from experience i did this on the weekend trying to set up my Holz skid).

I'm just looking for someone to be able to explain which adjustments do what. All my adjustments are set in the middle. Probably the way it came from Yamaha. My dealer is not much help. Wish Yamaha explained more in the owner's manual. ;)!

Is the 05 rear skid the same as what is on ethe 06-07 Apex Mtn?

Thanks for the info Darko. I picked up an 05 Mtn and am 250+gear. didnt know I would be needing to change so much to get it to work with my weight.
Anybody have the part# for the bumpstop kit and the heavier springs?

I'd like to know the part numbers too... I can see the original part numbers from the Yamaha site but I need to get that heavier spring!

TIA!
