I have an 08 RTX anniversary Nytro. I was thinking about painting the hood black. I liked the look of the all black sleds. I work at an auto body shop and we use dupont paint basecoat/clearcoat. I know the paint will stick, but i'm wondering if anyone has any experience with doing this. I'm mostly worried about the paint flaking off in a couple rides and then it's gonna look worse. Is this gonna chip right off as soon as something touches it? Or will the cover basically destroy the clearcoat when it's towed from the wind? I'm sure they make a black hood, but I wanted it to be shiny, and I'll save alot of $$$ doing it here at the shop. I guess i'm mostly worried about making the hood look worse once the paint starts flaking off. I also was looking for the "snow skull" decal kit made by yamaha. The dealer close to me said they have no clue when yamaha will get more of these. Anybody have a clue about the paint or the decals?

I used to paint. I used Siekens. To paint plastic; first wash with soap and water, scuff with scotchbrite grey pad. Dry off and clean with degreaser. There are primers specific for plastic depending on the composition of the plastic. determine the plastic and use appropriate primer... Paint the base coat.... then the clear coat has a flex agent added to accommodate for the plastic; also agents can be added to the clear to obtain a mat finish. If done properly the finished product is bullet proof...no different than doing an automotive bumper.

i have my plastic painted, 3 yrs now, 3400miles and its flawless.. it is a must to use an adhesion promotor, and have clean plastic.. cant even have a finger print on it..
