Are the performance gains from the Hurricane air box mod about equal to the gains from the K&N's? Also, does the air box mod have a ton of intake noise, like the K&N's do? I would prefer to ride without wearing ear plugs. It's not that the intake noise is loud, it just gets rather annoying after a few miles. Any info would be appreciated.
<-- this is funny cause almost everything on Craigslist either "Runs Good"or "Needs Carbs Cleaned"!!

i emailed them a couple of weeks ago and this is what i was told "put a hindle complete exhaust on it with airbox mod and pcv.You will make 18.5hp"
I don't know about sound, but imagine it's loud.....

That sucks because that engine made 130hp before doing that.

Now that is funny.

The hindle is a pain to put together but does sound awsome when done. I find it hard to beleive 18.5 HP from just and exhaust and air box mod. Even with a comtroller. I just put the hindle on last night. Going riding this weeknd if my skid plate shows up.

I don't know where they come up with 130hp stock. Ulmer dyno'ed at Dynotech years ago and the stock sled made 140hp.

I have the hurricane hindle kit. It does make some serious power. I would believe the 18.5 hp gain. Sled has no problem hanging with 800's all day.
It is surprisingly quiet though for an aftermarket exhaust. No ear plugs required.
My filters fell off the air box though so I have resorted to my own custom lid. I installed a KN in the lid of my box from a sunfire. The hurricane one works but does not like oil. My sled is upside down lots.
Cant say waht would be better though. I would guess they would be similar. The KN's are pretty nice though.

I hear the pipe more then I hear the airbox. Also sled is louder if I wear my MX helmet and quieter if I have on the full face. Now where near as lod as the MBRP exhaust out there.

The Excell exhaust i have seems to be a pretty decent volume. Its the air filters that are annoying with intake noise. That's why i wanted to know if the Hurricane air box is quieter.

Ive never had the k&ns but i cant hear the hurricane intake all that much with the exhaust screaming. Anybody that has rode with me or around somebody with the system will agree
It will run with my buddies 800 etec much better now but he still walks me on top end....expected. He is real nervous about blowing it up this year

I don't have my dyno sheets handy to give exact HP numbers...but the Hurricane aribox mod made pretty much the same power as K&Ns did...about 6hp peak ( with the Hindle system ) and some down low....again these gains were with the Hindle system. When Dave designed it on my sled, it was to improve a low end loss we had with the exhaust system on its own. I have run this airbox mods for 3 seasons now...I have never run filters so I don't know how loud they are...but between my exhaust and the AB mod..I hear the AB mod more. I run the Hindle system with a DB reducer and don't really notice it unitl I'm at WOT...most of the time I hear the AB mod as it's right in front of me. I don't find it annoying at all..but then again I like the sound of a performance engine.

When i have earplugs in, the engine has a nice growl to it. I too like the sound of my Nytro when someone else is riding it, and i can stand back and watch and listen. Its just the 6000-7000 RPM range where it gets annoying. It has almost a harmonic sound that make my ears ring!

Bahr05, unfortunately thats the nature of the beast. When you open up the airbox, it gets louder, and the fact that we basically sit so close to the motor...you'll never get it quiet unless you stay stock

I love the sound of it! It's still rings in my dome when riding wide open trails for extended periods of time thou......UP. I hear exhaust 100% more then air box too. But like you said its a perfomance set up, extra noise is part of it and I like it just don't want it so loud its annoying.
