There was an add for a tool that you could buy to pull hyfax off your sled. Has anyone used this and does it work or is this just a gimmick?
i think it was called the EZ Slider removal tool

That tool looks like just a slide-hammer with a screw in it to attach to hyfax then hammer out, Should work ok.

Just back them out into the track windows a bit and run the sled in reverse. The slides come right off.

Two similar concepts that basically do the same thing:
When you put the sled in reverse and give it a little throttle, the track window will eventually press against the hyfax, deform it, and bend it off of the grooves on the rail.
What I do (I don't have reverse) is use a chisle & hammer. I strike the hyfax so that it slides backwards through the track window about a foot. I then grab it with my hands and pull it towards me and towards the front of the sled at the same time. It'll stay in the track window and the track will travel in reverse as I continue to pull on the hyfax until it comes completely off.
As long as the hyfax isn't frozen it is usually pliable enough to bend off of the rail without snapping in half. I've done that before when they were too cold. If that happens then I just use the hammer and chisle to complete the job.
My cousin actually welded an old pair of vice grips to a slide hammer and that works fantastic for us.

That is an excellent idea.

i have been doing it the old way for years, using a wood stake and a hammer to pound them out the back. but i have 3 sleds to do and as we know snow conditions in Wisc and hyfax longevity on yamaha's isn't always the best. I dread having to do it so much. I am hoping the EZ Slider works as intended. Nothing worse then laying out on a cold garage floor wrestling hyfax on 3 sleds. It burns a whole day of riding.

I read on here about the banana peel trick. Try it with the track lifted off the ground 3 or 4 inches. I don't know why you would need a tool when they can be removed so easily. Give it a try and you will see. Tap one side hyfax out the window no more than a inch and put it in reverse and give it just a LITTLE gas and it will be off in a second. I was amazed! Gotta love this site for tips like this one.

my dealer charges a half hour labor ($30) to change sliders since there only 10 minutes up the road there doing it, save my back the pain from bending

Hyfax
I use a 10$ dent puller i picked it up at the bargain bin at Napa , its a piece of cake just drill a pilot hole in the back of the hyfax sidewall then thread the screw from the puller in and bada bing its done,i lube up the track window and that seems too help also.
Make sure to back the track off before starting.
