Can someone tell me how to get the slides off? I can't seem to get them to budge. thanks I have a 03 rx1
Not sure if you have access to an air chiesel. It not a chiesel and and hammer to get them started. Make sure you don't go through the slide in to the rail. When you get it out the window get a pair of vise grips and pull it out. Forgot, before you start spray the slider and rail with WD 40. It's really not that hard. Good luck.

And don't forget to undo the bolt at the tip.

Thanks for all the help, I've tried a hammer and chisel they just don't seem to budge. I'll try the wd 40. I got them to move about a inch and then thats it. Thanks again.

I always pull the skid. Then tap them off with a block of wood and a hammer. Won't hurt the rails with the wood.

make sure the tip on the air chissel is wide and file it blunt on the end so it wont cut throught the hyfax with chisseling it towards the whole and keep a good angle on the tip so that its pushing it out the back! Them grap asap with vise grips. If you have a real tough one you might need someone to pull with the vise grips attached while you are chiseling the hyfax outward!

When you put new hyfax on, coat the hyfax and rails with a little grease. helps when taking them back off!!

WOW just pulled my hyfax out !! That was the hardest set I've ever pulled had to use my air chissel and very carefully with the wide somewhat blunt edge chissel them out from the side didn't seem like a big enough window area from undernieth. So with the sleds back end off the ground with a chainfall and pulling the screw out in the front and lubing both sides of the hyfax with breakaway I chisseled from the side of the hyfax towards the window at back of track...be careful, make sure you chissel with as much angle pushing them out back as you can so you dont hit the rail and create hook-like effect in the rail this will make it harder for you to get them out if you hit the rail!!! Once you get them to move make sure its lined up with the window in the track and grab them with some needlenose vise grips very hard! Then take a screwdriver and pry them tru the opening on both sides just alittle.. Then I tied a 1/4" cable around the vise grips jaws and make a large loop and tied it (closed loop) then had my son hook onto the loop with a snowmobile tie down and as he pulled I would put the hammer on the inside of the cable loop and swing it so the wieght of the hammer would JOLT the hyfax out along with him pulling ...THIS WORKS GREAT!!! Being that the 05 hyfax is wider than o4 hyfax and the window is smaller its very difficult to get these out so thought I would post how I went about it. Sure it sounds rediculas I know but someone might benifit from this?? Oh and dont forget to loosen your track up before starting also..

Rage2005Yamaha,
I changed mine today, I had the skid out and it was still very difficult to remove them. These have got to be the toughest slides to remove.

A bucket of hot water can go a long way in softening them up and melting out any ice that may be holding it together.

There is an easier method ..... Get a good quality channel-lock type pliers & you can pry them off from the side. I start in the middle , once it's pryed down (loosen the track WAY loose) the front & rear can be pryed down with a large screwdriver & viola !

Yep pry them off the side. do both in about 30 minutes.

I will try the channel lock method next time around...I'm hoping it will be 8,000 miles after installing graphite hyfax, larger Polaris wheels and a 3rd wheel kit from Pioneer Performance along with slp wear pads thru Dennis Kirk.Bossrx1 said:Yep pry them off the side. do both in about 30 minutes.
