I have a attak gt with about 1200 miles on it so far this year, and the hyfax seems to be well worn already. Being a new yamaha owner i'm wondering if this seems to early for the hyfax to be so worn. Can i do anything to prolong the life of the hyfax? Most of my riding has been on groomed trails with plenty of loose snow.

we have all gone thru it, alot of us changed our wheels to a bigger size, the stock ones are 130mm and i switched to ski-doo 135mm wheels, check your idler wheels alot of them are delaminating, especially the middle bottom ones, this is what is causing you hyfax wear

2600 miles on my first set 06 attak and they stiil had more. The first bit wears fast then it stops. Run the track as loose as possible, just so it don't ratchet

Your track is too tight and the wheels don't seem to sit low enough in the rails to do as intended. There is a kit you can buy from FIX powersports that will lower the wheels on the skid. It does the same thing as what others have done with replacing with the bigger POO or DOO wheels. They aklso have low snow kits for the FRONT of the skid at the bend and the middle of the skid. I installed the ones in the front along with hyperfax and ran the track a hair looser than the factory spec which i think is like 1.5" at 20lbs of pull down from the rails.

I have not seen anything yet for wear nor smelled anything but its only been like 200 miles. but there were some bony spots too though.

We have made wheel kits for both front and mid whell on these sleds. You can check them out under preferred vendor TY 4 Stroke

800 miles on my 07 Attak and the right side is shot (at the marker line) and the left is is about half wore out. What would cause this?

I put 140 kms on my new Nytro and the same thing happened. The right side (when sitting on the sled) completely melted away and the left was half worn. Why the difference in wear on each side?

Anyone try ice scratchers?

I agree with Tork especially if you have studs installed. The tork on the track is not even as you have two wheels supporting the one side on the rear with only one on the other. We usually only reccomend this if you have studs installed as the issue seems to show itself more with them installed than with out. By putting the 4th wheel kit in it allows 2 things:

1: You can run the track much looser approx 3 turns looser

2: The tork on the track will not all be pulled to one side as you will have even support on the track through out the rear shaft with the 4th wheel installed.

I have these in stock and ready to ship if anyone would like one. Comes with complete install instructions and takes 15-30 minutes to install.

Plus holding the track straighter(with a 4th rear wheel kit) can help prevent bogey wheel delamination as it reduces the side load on those wheels. Some darting and track ratcheting may be eliminated as well.

Last season our two Rages also wore the slides more on the right. Not sure about the Apex, but what I found is that the RA plastic protection guide holds the track up more on the left, which probably makes it tighter. You can tell by looking how close the track runs to the metal guide rings over the front suspension mounts.
Also as the two outside half drivers appear to keep the track centered I noticed the track runs closer to the slides on the left. I was[last season] aligning the tracks to run centered on the slides in the rear, but found I had to tighten it more on the right to do this. Plus track alignment is not as sensitive as other sleds.
With all this in mind, this season I align the track to run parallel to the slides as it is in front, alway as loose as possible, run home made ice scratchers, and have two more turns pressure on the right front ski. Since doing this, about 1000 miles now there has been very little wear on either slide.
Two more permanent ways I can think of to even the tension would be to buy another plastic protecter guide and mount in the tunnel on the right side or remove the RA adjuster ,put a plastic cap over the shock fitting and then lay in the snow and adjust the shock with a pocket screwdriver as reguired.
