Put in Hid's in the Apex from Sledstart last year and what a difference, would never ride with stock bulbs again. Am changing to them on the Nytro this year also.

Sorry. I have been bussy. I love the HID lights now. They looked blueish but on the snow they are great. I went for a ride last weekend and my buddy has the same 06 Apex and my lights were 5X brighter than his stock lights

So what does one do if one lamp goes out. Should I put a new bulb or start troubleshooting elsewhere?
I also do not know the manufacturer of the HID kit, are the lamps available at an autoparts store if I pull it out and read any print on it? I suppose they are stupid expensive.
Thanks for your help.

When you have one HID light working and the other HID light not working it is very easy to troubleshoot. Simply use the process of elimination by swapping components one at a time from one side to the other until the problem follows a component to the other side.
When only one light is not working it will most likely be a bad bulb or ballast but it could also be a bad wiring connection on just that side. I had one HID light go bad (again) this weekend on my sled so I will be troubleshooting mine later today.

Check to make sure you have a good ground. My son had his grounded behind a bolt and was having problems with one not working. Moved the ground to the neg jumper cable, works fine now.

Very good advice. I will swap the bulbs from side to side first, then dig deeper into the wiring.
Anyone have any tips for getting at those lamps easily? I have an 07 Apex GT. I was going to start with the easy plastics and windshield and go from there. I have yet had to dig into this sled on top too far.
Sounds like a good night to turn the heat up in the garage, crack a cold one and adjust that reverse linkage and re-zip tie the shock wire in the skid as well.
Thanks again guys!!

gettin in the top is easy two bolts and the whole pod slides out dont pull it up till you slide it it hooks in in the front and you can break the plastic if you pull/pry it. have to remove hood and dash plastic as well first. the chrome ring in the riser is two pice and two phillips screws hold it on remove that to get dash out.

All non factory hid are finicky, i got a really expensive set in my truck but still somtimes one wont lite. Usually just have to turn it back on an off ounce to get it to lite. Just started having this prob in my sled now. Still well worth the it , ill never ride with out hid again.

I just talked to Kurt at Sled Start. Apparently certain model year Apex's don't play well with the original ballasts when not connected directly to the battery. When switching between low & high beam the patch cord connection causes the older ballasts low voltage protection circuit to trip requiring that the ballast be reset by cycling the power.
The fix is to draw power directly from the battery with the original wiring harness or to install a newer version of the ballasts that he now has. My issue is completely different but Kurt is making it right with me, just as he always does with all of his customers. As always Kurt has proven to me that he really understands the meaning of great customer service!

Kurt is the definition of customer service.
I found out my kit was a Sledstart kit. I did all the troubleshooting that you had all recommended and narrowed it down to a bad ballast.
I emailed to Sledstart and woudn't you know Kurt called me within minutes. He told me he was on the road and would mail out a ballast as soon as he could. He also confirmed that I had troubleshot the situation correctly.
Tonight, I put in the new ballast with ease and I am rocking two headlights again!
Thanks to you all for your help ripping my pod off and to Kurt for the great service. There are cheaper kits out there, but these are no brainer kits for us Yamaha guys.
