It *IS* from backing up. When you back into a snowbank, you bend that steel sheet in. That steel sheet holds the flap away from the track, if it is bent out correctly, your flap will not touch your track.

Shorter Flap!
I had the same problem and I don't even have reverse. It kept getting sucked up into the tunnel. So I put a shorter flap on my RX1 and it works and looks fine. I heard somewhere that the long flap helps it cool better but I can't see where it made a difference in my cooling at all. Try it you'll like it!

Its not ALWAYS from backing up, mine likes to jump up in there while Im riding like scott and RXONE, probably just get a shorter one after I get done shredding this one

When the track is spinning, it is sucking everything behind the sled into the tunnel, and that includes the flap. The trick is that you must bend the sheet metal far enough that the rubber flap can't come into contact with the track.

I went through 2 long stock ones and 2 short ones, however I think I have found the fix. One of the recalls on the Arctic Cat F-7 was a strap that runs from the bumper to about halfway down the mudflap and bolts tight into the middle of the flap. It can't get sucked in this way. Simple and somewhat ugly solution!

MUD FLAP
If you get the "Dream meter" above 125, the mud flap gets "sucked in"-happened to all 3 of us!

Crawl under a ZX chassis Skidoo and you will notice the stiff plastic plate they have put in front of the snowflap to prevent it from being sucked into the track. I installed one on my RX1 Mtn and it has totally solved the problem. RX FUN

The same thing happened to me last year,so I cut some length of the bottom of the snow flap and not a problem since.

I did the same as RXONE. Go buy the 12" Yamaha flap from the catalog.
The stock on is 16" and I went through 3 last year before I put the 12" on this year.
Problem solved no matter how fast it goes, 130+ on dream meter.
Makes it easier to go in reverse.
