I change my oil every year before I ride. Last season was no different but I only used a half a tank gas( 2 quick rides). I am wondering if I need to change it again this season? I don't have a lot of time to ride but I hope to go through a couple of tanks this year at least. I know I should change the oil... but can I get away with it this season?

the short answer is yes

oil loses its viscosity after a while, those 2 short runs were enough to dirty the oil.

on the flip side, chances are no actual harm would come if you didn't, assuming you used full synthetic

I'd run it. I sure can't see how the oil would be dirty enough to do any harm in such a short span of running. Drain the gas, refill and RIDE!

You probably don't need one more opinion, but mine would be that you are fine.

If you are truly worried, you could change the oil, but don't bother with the filter. Heck, it hardly had a chance to do anything, so there is little chance it has much in it.

The filter change is the toughest part, and the oil is not horrible expensive. But if it were me, I'd run it.

Good luck!

That was my plan. "Drain the gas, refill and ride!" Still not enough snow yet but the forecast looks like snow. :rocks: :rocks: :rocks:

Most guys here recommend changing the oil at the end of the season so that the dirty, acidic oil doesn't sit in the motor all summer. I would run it but change the oil at the end of the season, and I only change the filter every other year.

I'd change the oil but no the filter. You can do that in 10 minutes. I think even yamaha manual says the filter doesn't have to be changed regulary just the oil.

doesn't the manual say once every 20,000 after the initial break in period oil change?
The Oil Filter i believe is every 12,500mi .the sleds are not in dusty dirty conditions like a quad, dirtbike etc.you will be fine to run that oil another season Tuner ,check and add if needed. ;)!

yeah 20,000km ;) I'm north of the border. I don't think i'll ever need a new filter!
