Hey guys

I have been following your posts for the last month or so and I am struggling with the right Build of a 08 nitro to participate in the 2008 Cains Quest challange in Labrador. I am requesting imput from this group for the right Build!!! Some of you are may understand my needs and to clarify i will give a short description. This sled will need to provide reliable h.p. to run in conditions ranging from 1to7 ft of fresh powder to hardpacked icing windblown trail "ungroomed" with vertical challanges up to 2800 ft above sea level. The distance is approx 2000kms with mandatory stops about every 500kms. Thus we must carry food, fuel, tent,s.bag and various other survival gear to particapate. Wind protection is a large concern with average temps between -15c and -30c and I hate being cold!!! I have been tossing around a mtx but I feel a lot of clutching and suspention work would be required. 153" tracks options are not plentyfull. I was thinking about a Hartmanized 144" with 1.75" camo "backcountry" under a RTX. I hope the tall windscreen with side deflector option would be suitable? You get the drift "haha" Please send me your input.

I was considering some trials up behind Frazerdale as this country of yours is the closest terrain simulation in Ontario to Lab.

Thanks FB[/list] :exc: :exc:

I'm thinking the Hartman 144 kit which moves the skid back will make the steering harder. I'd go with the Ulmer 144'' 1 piece rails instead ( I am with the back country) ) . The back country is a nice rigid track but might not be as friendly on hardpack without extra wheels as a 1.5 track. But the nitro needs the bigger gas tank, warmer hand & thumbwarmers , taller windshield and possible prefilter on clutchside hood vent.Wider skis definitly would be needed for the deeper snow riding.

Actually no I don't think the 1.5 is enough for the fluff. I've been pondering this track thing for awhile now. I'm caught between the 1.75 back country and the 2 inch finger track. I go to the mountains here and there but even on the flats we like to find meadows, hills and anything deep so I need a decent , tough track. I picked the shorty sled just for the fact of wide front end , good shocks and I wanted the 144 track . But with the big track you gotta run the extra wheels to keep the hyfax alive.

Topgun what are you riding? I looked at the rails you mentioned and I can see the merits of the dual angle. I am checking with my dealer today to see if phazer mtx 144" rails would bolt up. I noticed from your recomendation that they boasted more wheels

What is up with the left foot factory shower???

What track are you running? Did you trim it down?? When is CC tank due to arrive??
im running a camoplast extreme 9985,i sold the stock track..i didnt trim the lugs..have no idea about the cc tank,i know im on the early list so when they are ready ill be in the 1st batch

Actually Ulmer Performance has machined up some 144 rails that will bolt right up along with the tunnel extension. Same attack angle as stock for the holeshot and tip up rails to make it feel like a shorty. With the bigger lug track there is not enough lube for the sliders thus requiring the extra wheels.
I ride the 2008 nitro fx. I have already added extra wheels on the front of the skid to reduce drag at the front. I actually adapted the Polaris blocks and wheels to it.

Not yet, Ulmers getting the rails fabricated as we speak and I'm told I get the first set out of the bunch. In the mean time I'll work on putting miles on, racin and havin some fun.

Sounds like you are creating a simular Nitro. I would really like to here about it when you are complete and maybe a few pics. Thanks for the rail sugestion from ulmer. I can see its merits. I am curious what you will end up for the ultimate crossover track?

Thanks again TOPGUN

Wind protection is a large concern with average temps between -15c and -30c and I hate being cold!!!

Temp is about right without the wind. Trust me you want to be bundled up, for the 3 - 5 days of pretty well constant riding. During the winter months with the wind it is normal to see temps -40c often, I've even seen it get as cold as -70c, very rarely it can even get colder. Though anything below -60c is extremely rare, normally it doesn't get any colder then -50c but just making you aware that it can and has happened before.

If you did run Cain's Quest what is your partner running for a sled? If you do run I'll be watching for a modded Nytro at the start gate. As long as I'm not working during the start of the race.
