I need someone out there with a Nitro to pull your side panel off on the clutch side and try to move the clutch forward and backwards like you are trying to roll the motor over . I need to know if everybody else has a little free play in the motor . I have probably 1/8 inch of free play when I move the clutch forward and back . The free play is in the crank .

I have the same problem. My primary is very noisy, it is all you can hear under 6000RPM before the exhaust noise drowns it out. My noise is not from the weights, or the rollers as some have experienced. I feel there may be clearance between the steel sleeve pressed into the aluminum fixed sheave of the primary.

I know there is no gear reduction on this sled so I assume the crank is one piece and if it is I would think there should be no free play there. Maybe I will pull the clutch and take a look .

Are you talking about the valvetrain back lash

No not the valve backlash . When I grab ahold of my clutch there is a little free play if I move it forward and backward . Almost feels like the clutch is loose on the shaft . But its not the freeplay is in the crank itself . I have atleast 1/8 inch of free play . Not in and out but forward and back . If everybodys is like that then it is probably normal and I wont worry about it . So if some of you guys could check yours that would be great.

Are you grabbing the front of the clutch? If so, grab the inside sheave and see what it does. I assume it has to be slop in the splines of the inside sheave and the outer sheave/clutch body. If the clutch was actually loose on the shaft it would prob fly off and grenade everything

The noise at the low rpm's is definitely from the massive size weights that are needed for these engines, I can here it on mine at the same rpm's.

I agree, it is probably slop in the splines. I plan to pull the primary and have a look.

On my sled it is the whole clutch that moves . If I shine a flashlight behind the clutch it looks like the free play is in the crank . The clutch is not moving on the shaft . I am not saying there is a problem with this . I just want to know if it is normal on everybodys sled . If you go out and grab the clutch on your sled and rock it foward and back just a little is there any play in it . If a few of you guys could check for me that would be great .

is your clutch bolt tight? you are going to get some movement as the crank rotates slightly by hand.. I agree the primary is really loud.

Waterpump, cam(s), balance shaft?, oil pump(s) all would be connected to the crankshaft. Gotta be some slop in there somewhere. Just thinkin'
