I talked to Bender today

Yes the guy at bender told me there was a jet, I have not really looked for its location, There is also two jets in the steel air tube running to the intercooler, these are located right at the chaincase or brake setup, what exactly is there purpose??? Thanx Scott

Jets

Those jets are your pitot jets. Only one of the jets is active. One is just a holder for a jet. You can use them to fine tune your jetting for changing conditions. It is opposite of normal jetting. The larger the jet, the leaner it runs. I think this is correct. Someone will correct me if I am wrong. I am still fairly new to my Bender setup also.

Well the tech guys at Bender told me to run stock jetting so I guess thats where I'll leave it. They tell me it will work well in a range from 2200 ft to 8500+ ft, i'm a little skeptical. Thanx for the tips guys!!!

Scott

Basically, you want to tune your sled to run its best before you turbo it. Then you will use the pitot jet to fine tune your jetting for the boost you will be running. The pitot tube jet is the nice thing about the Bender system, it only takes a minute to adjust your carberation for the elevation, temp, etc. You should get a pyrometer or an AFR to monitor your engine. It sure takes the guess work out of adjusting the system.

Thanx Woodsrider, I just bought this unit with the turbo installed, I am familiar with snowmobiles but just have never had a 4-stroke. I guess I'll just have to wait for the snow!!!! It does have a A/F gauge but just one of the cheap ones. I'll have to get some of those pilot jets i guess, they just look like a regular hex main jet??? thanx again Scott

Think of the pitot jet as a kind of vari-flow without the fine tuning dial. Once you get to know the system you'll see how easy it is to adjust.

Scott: If nothing else invest in a wideband A/F guage. My first season I tried using an EGT and it did not react fast enough to help me very much.

The EGT is probably ok for the experienced turbo guys, but the wideband tells you exactly where you are at every throttle position.

The most trouble I had were lean problems in the midrange, with the needles. Stock main jets work fine for me from 900-3000 Ft elevation.
Just go bigger or smaller on the pitot jet.

Than alot all, it will take me some time to get the hang of tuning this turbo system!!! But thats half the fun right!!! I just don't want to wait 6 months to do it, but I quess thats what you get for buying a sled in april!!!! Thanx again guys, oh and what type of jet are those pilots??

Thanx Scott

I think you are refering to the Pitot tube jets. They are your standard mukuni hex jets. I would recommend 300 to 700 in 100 increments. I actually made my own set clear to 1100 but really don't use above 700. ( I beleive 700 is as large as you can buy, I drilled the other four out the same increment that was between 600 and 700) Benders std kit came with a 400 and a 700. The jet on top of the charge tube is just a holder for the one you are not using.

BigDog is right on with both suggestions (1) the A/F gauge - get one you can read in the bright day light - and (2) checking out the posting with the correct Bender step up. Make sure your hoses are correct, both fuel regulator and sliders. Secondly, you should try softer springs in the carbs. Then watch your A/F gauge for how lean you run. I run on stage II now - no sense going back to stage I. As far as the pitot jets, I run 300 down low at 2,000 ft and run 500 at 6,000 feet - I also raised my needles one spacer. Now all I get ia a little lean spot as I engage to 5,000 RPMs but no more concerns. The pitot are great = can you imagine running jets for high up all the time or changing for the correct elevation on the fly? Ick. Next move the air filter outside the seat. Cool that intake air. Bender really screwed up with the intake under the seat. I had serious issues with condensation and lots of water. It took me 800 miles to dial it in. I have almost 1500 miles now and love the set up. I get better fule economy than other stock RX1s and equal to APEX's. Next thing I need is the billet carb covers - I can smell fuel after a long run - blow by from the carbs. FYI - we have couple more weekends of riding here in AK - got to love it.

SledheadAlaska - I'd already installed Holtzman's green springs in my carbs when adding the turbo. What changes did you get on the AFR meter going to softer springs? What springs are u using? I'm in need for the alu carb caps too, smell of gas starts at about 5 lbs of boost. Still snowing...but trails are closed down around here, can't ride :-(.... Time to mod the turbo :-)

RXrider - I got the springs from the local yamaha dealer who I believe got them from Mountain Performance - they are for 4,000 to 6,000 feet in elevation. They installed so I did not get a look nor can I find the invoice.

Thanx alot, the guy who I purchased the sled from said that he thought it was running way to rich, so thats a good thing at least. Do you guys think I need to make the hose changes ( intercooler to carbs )?? Was this a prob in all applications, or should I wait to see if this is a problem with this machine, sucks that I can't just ride it , but i would like to get as much out of the way as possible this summer!! Thanx alot guys Scott
