Could anyone describe to me what ratcheting is?? I loosened a littlte my track and in bumpy trails, the track seems to woble and bounce under me... Is that it or is it something else?

I found that I need to keep the track tighter on my Attak than on my 'Doo. Ratcheting is like a "Chunk" sound, as much a feeling as a sound. The rubber nubs on the inside of the track are jumping past the plastic nubs on the drive wheels. Usually happens on full throttle acceleration, usually when you land off a jump or are spinning on loose snow or ice then hit hardpack or grass with good traction. That's when the track / drive wheels are under full load.

Just like SRSchang said, and it is pretty loud. You know immediately when it happens. From your description, it doesn't sound like the track is ratcheting. In any case, make sure your track has 1" of sag when off the ground.

Is 1" sag what yamaha recommends? I've always ran mine like a banjo string to keep studs from contacting the tunnel/ heat exchangers. If this is not necessary please let me know as it robs HP to have that tight!!!!

The recommendation is 22 lbs on like a fish spring scale and about 1 inch.
Trouble is you got to have the sled pretty far off the ground to do it that way.
Banjo string is too tight, go for at least 1/2 or so sag with the sled off the ground, more if you have studs because of the weight of those

It seems as though if it took 22lbs to pull it down 1" in the center of the rails that it would be to tight to hang while the sled was of the ground???

Just replaced the hyfax on my Attak, & reset the track tension per the manual. 1 1/8" between the hyfax & the track at 22# force down on the track (used a fish scale). Equates to ~ 1/4" gap with no tension on the track. Seems tight, but I had problems earlier in the season with ratcheting as the track broke in, & found I needed to run it this tight to stop the ratcheting.

I'll measure mine tomorow it seems closer to 1 and half inch with tension (no fish scale though)

Ratcheting sounds and feels like a chuck of ice is going through the inside of your track and is being broken up and discarded.

sled dog really goes back to the heart of your question, as we should have. Ratcheting, I dont think you are having that, it is not a bounce or a wobble. It is a loud thunk thunk noise and will happen at full throttle more and will happen much less often if at all during cruising for example.
