Went for a ride last night in a heavy 1' of snow.. it was about -7c / 19f. and the temp light would pop on after a while, i would tip the sled over poke out this ice dam and then keep going... every few miles it would build up again..

now i dont have the rad fan, but i would think it would only help a bit.... is the problem the front tunnel hole that is not blocked? i have the yamaha kit for the rear hole installed.

I get the ice dam every ride but I have the fan kit. I've never seen the temp light come on. I also have the rear blocked and the front open.

I have the ice dam happen many times. I carry a snowblower clean out tool with me on the sled now for it! I did install the fan and the machine has never overheated since. I also have a water temp gauge installed so I know when the ice dam is happening and I can stop and clean it out.

According to my dealer and some feedback on here is to install the 1.5" Freeride track - that will eliminate the issue. I also have the rear hole blocked but the front hole open.

Interesting,

I don't have the rad fan but I did block off both tunnel holes.
I ride the piss out of my phazer and I've never had an overheat situation.
I've even done high speed runs down the center of Trout Lake with maybe 2" of snow below me.
It amazes me since I have the apparent most flawed year sled and other then my reverse gear servo motor crapping out-I've otherwise not encountered all these bizaar issues people are having.

keep in mind this was in a foot of sticky snow...

Mine doesn't get the ice dam all the time. The snow has to be right(or wrong) for it to clump. Usually the dam falls off when riding. I've only seen the overheat light 2x in my life but never since the fan.

i was thinking of all the water that would be running off the exhaust from the front hole being open... this can not help the ice dam problem.

I ended up doing the same thing. Closed the rear hole and put in the 1.5" Freeride. No ice problems anymore. Since I did them at the same time, I am unsure which did more good, but the combination solved the issue.

All I know is what more reason do you need to go out and buy a freeride track? Just do it, IMHO, the best third-party phazer mod!

I guess I haven't noticed whether I've had the ice dam or not after I installed my Freeride 1.5". Must not be much of a problem anymore for me.
