With the Side Kicks do you get enough desired effect with only one being used on the right-hand side? Do you find that the left hyfax wears more than the right-hand side because the scratcher is only on the right side?

I've got sidekicks on both my sleds and have had good luck with them. On the Nytro I put them on the rails like normal. When I got the Apex I put them on the A-arms so they would kick up sooner on the sliders. Seems to be working well. And not as many complaints from people following me about so much being thrown up in the air behind me.

smalltownpower said:we've put slide kicks/tric's on all 5 of our sleds. they all were screwed in 600 km's. they did help the sliders alot but once the plastic/rubber is worn off that cable there is no more downward pressure and their usless. the set on the phazer were in better shape because they were mounted higher up, but they still failed. i installed a set of RSI scratchers on the phazer for this winter (62 dollars on ebay)
That's not good. Mine have 4500 miles on them and they are fine...

With 4500 miles did you need to replace the tips?

the trics mounted on the swaybar bolt lasted bout 400 km's before one broke off at the mount, and yes they were the new updated ones. the cable itself freyed and broke off. they only worked on snow as they didnt have near enough pressure to scratch ice. and they beat the crap out of my skid plate and ski's when their flipping around at 120 km/h. the slide kicks mounted on the rails lasted 600 km's on the vectors and 700 on the phazer. one way or another my dealer gave us 75% money back on 2 sets of trics, and 5 sets of slide kicks. going back to the known proven RSI's for this season. and i can get RSI's for 60 bucks on ebay, as compared to 95-110 for any kind of scratchers from any dealer around here.

My bad. I should say my sled has 4500 miles on it with no issues. I only use the scratchers when I need to, not all the time. When the trails are super hard pack I put them down. That's it.

If you're just looking to throw some snow when the trails get a little hard, you could do something like this
They don't touch the ground on concrete/black top, so they're no good for ICE, but they throw plenty of snow on hardpack trails

Well I have a different spring on each side. Some random springs I found laying around. I think 1 was off a new holland chopper head and the other off something else. I used a piece of plastic I found laying around for the center spacer.
What you could do is find a piece of round stock UHMV round stock, or teflon or Nylatron rod that will be a clean fit inside a spring sold at tractor supply, fleet farm, farm and fleet, etc.
Probably a 1" , 1 1/8" or 1 1/4". I'd probably find a good spring first, measure the inside diameter and then order the plastic. The plastic round stock seems to run a little larger than advertised. Its pretty cheap. I found mine on ebay. It was the only place I could find it.
Then get a piece of aluminum from a place like tractor supply to cut up and bend like in my pictures.
I ordered all three sizes of the round stock but haven't started making them out of that yet, so I can't tell you which size fits in any certain spring. I'm hoping to have time to start making them for family once I get the sleds ready.

After much thought, and reading info regarding scratchers on TY...I decided to go with the Yammi rail mounted scratchers. But, with Apex 06's idea, mounted them on my skis. This way, they provide much more lubrication at the front of the skid.
I had to search far and wide for 10mm bolts, that are about 6.5" in length. Fasental in Canada was the ONLY place I could find them. Unfortunately, they needed to be ordered, and of course I didn't want to wait. Big trip in Northern NB this weekend. So I found two head bolts out of a blown Cross Fire 1000, and slightly machined the head end of the bolt down to allow about another 1/16" of length. Drilled a few holes and ended up here.
Will let you know how they worked this weekend......

Don't do it, they're garbage. Apart from not kicking up enough snow to make an difference, they don't last, and will break off after a few weeks. Total waste of money.
I agree with nfld - those things are junk. Waste of $100
I removed my front boogie wheel to install the old fashioned spring scratchers. I just had to drill a hole for the spring tensioner. I also installed a washer where the boogie wheel was. This washer acts as a stopper when the spring scratcher is not in use.
