if it is the 1052 motor how many lbs is the difference than the apex motor and how much compact is it compared to the antique apex motor ? yamaha if you reading this we need some new brand spanking new for 2012 for those who bleed blue maybe a cross plane 1052 motor if its not cross plane and what else fellas ? come on yamaha global warming is melting winter alot faster and ya'll need to make a new machines every year before theres no more winter.

Yamaha is known for making a great machine and then selling it for years... They sold the banshee, unchanged for 19years. When they came out with the grizzly 660 it remaind unchanged for 6 or 7 years, The rhino has remaind unchanged since its intro (other than the new 700 motor but that has no more power than the old 660 had) The apex has had a long run, basically unchanged... I believe when they release this new sled in 2011, unless there is something wrong with it, it will stay around for several years, other than a few tweeks and different decals... Thats just how yammi does things. They are not about to change anything up until sales of their current models drop drastically...

Chris Reid already stated in another post that Yamaha was not going to put the crossplane motor in a sled. I don't remember all the details why, something to do with the CVT clutching I believe.

Why would the weight be any different from the 1000 we already have? If anything it would be heavier. The 1000 engine we have now is not heavy by any means, in fact, it is light in comparison to most other engines. As I recall it is only 10 lbs. heavier than a 1000 thundercat engine and the t-cat is 25 lbs heavier than a 700 twin cat engine. Not bad at all for the four-stroke if you ask me.

The new sled will not be any lighter physically but the lighter steering will make it feel lighter. It will still weigh the same as the machine we have now. In fact, if I was a betting man, I'd bet it will weigh more than what we have now. They always try to tell you how much lighter it is here and there, but never inform the consumer where they added weight. Ultimately it seems, the weight has grown over the years when weighed independently on the scales. The exception is Ski-Doo with the XP/XR and Cat when they had the F7's out.

Well technically the 1052 is an 2mm overbore of the 1000, you do save 2mm of Aluminum.....

I think EPS adds 2-3 lbs the new seat saves a few, and the new spindles a lb or two, engine maybe 5 or so.

Maybe in total 10lbs or so max.

I don't know that I would agree that they can't make an even lighter 4-stroke.

For example, at 505 pounds the new vmax-sho 4-stroke v6 outboards weigh 34 pounds LESS than the vmax-hpdi-s2 2-stroke v6 outboards.

Really? Well its just marketing claims right now (as far as I know), but even if it was just *the same*, that is *incredible*.
