A few weeks back I had some major icing after a long trip. I put the sled inside overnight to thaw. The next morning we went out to rescue one sled we left behind and my ignition switch froze in the ON position.
I thought nothing of it really, just put some deicer in when i got back home. I'm not sure that was a good thing to do 'cause after that it started acting up....wanting to start sometimes...and not others. Two out of twenty stop'n'starts it wouldn't go. :?
This weekend, I was expecting it to act up again and sure enough it did. Fortunately, I put a copy of the electrical diagram in my pocket before I left for a ride. It came in handy.....
I pulled the switch right out and disconnected it. It's finished. I had to hot-wire it to make it home without being towed by a doo. I'm still wondering if the de-icer/lube had anything to do with messing up the switch? :?:

I don't know whats in "lock deicer", but you can definitely use alcohol. I froze up the switch on my Yamaha 4-wheeler a few weeks ago and dumped it full of isopropyl alcohol. Its been perfectly fine.

Ya the alcohol would just evaporate. I think there is some oil in the deicer i used.

That oil is probably insulating your contacts.

Instead of replacing it why not soaf it in alcohol and see if it removes the oil?
