Importing a sled into Canada....

Yep i can. The 550 & 700 are made overseas so there is 6.1% duty. The 450 & smaller are made here so no duty.

I helped a bud bring over a polaris last week. He needed the 72 hour thingee & us customs made him store the sled in the us until 72 hours had expired.
Yep yo have to do that before you 72 hrs before you bring it over. It's a bunch of crap...

There is no duty on the 700 and 550. I just brought over 2 700 Grizzlies in the last year and half and my 2008 was done 6 months ago. No duty..... The customs oficer is a dummy if they charge you duty. The fact of the matter is Yamaha already pays the duty bringing them to North America, you do not have to pay duty. At least I never did and neither did several of my firends that bought 700's. Just the GST at the border....

no duty on yamaha sleds because they travel on snow, but you pay duty on quads. Can anyone Confirm this???????
I also did not pay duty on my BRP 800 Outlander that I just bought 6 months ago...

You lucked out. Duty is/was paid to the us but not to canada & thats what they are collecting. Bombardier made in mexico so it,s part of NAFTA

If the serial number starts with a number it was made in north america & is duty free. if the serial number starts with a letter it was made offshore & you gotta pay 6.1% duty unless it,s a sled. This serial number rule is the same in trains/plains & automobiles. If you didn,t pay duty you got a lazy or clueless customs officer & got lucky if it was a yamaha quad.

No duty on oversnow vehicles regardless of where they were made!!!

That makes no sense....

I even called my American dealer and he said they sold hundred's of quads to CDN's and they all said that none have paid duty.... Lots of inconsistency on this one... I got a buddy who works for Customs, so I will check it out next time I talk to him...

duties

No duty paid on 2008 grizzy made in Japan. Brought Yamaha sled bback as well no duty. Duty free crossed at Detroit. You should stop at US Border for ATV and fax ownership 72 hts prior to crosing. Thjis goes for trailers as well. although I did not. Canada Customs could care less if you stop. Has nothing to do with them

You really only have to stop if you plan on bringing the unit of whatever it may be, if you plan to return to the U.S. for what ever reason. Canada Customs could care less..... Once on Canadian soil they cannot turn you around....

Ya they can turn you around. We tried pleading ignorance on my buddies polaris by not stopping at us customs & they made us go back. US customs then made him store the sled for 72 hours on the us side & they were pissed!
