Has anyone had there RX-1 do funny things with the speedometer. When idling sometimes the machine would read various speeds! Also when driving at a cruising speed the machine would jump to different speed readings which are very inaccurate! One time i was doing 60km and it jumped from 100km to 6 km and everything inbetween!! Any ideas?

Thanks
Justin

I checked out a bunch of things this weekend and the connector at the back of the speedometer worked its way out a bit! Pushed it back in and everything is reading fine once again!! How does a bad jack shaft bearing give you a speed reading when not moving? With almost 10,000km on my machine i think i should change the bearing anyway!!

Weak battery does some funny things with the tach, not sure about the speedo. How old is the battry in it?

Battery i believe is 3yrs old but its always on the trickle charger when not in use!! Never had a problem starting in cold weather so i doubt thats it once i plugged the speedo connector back in the problems been gone since!

Check your speedo side jack shaft bearing, this is the first sign of it going bad!

He means the DRIVE shaft, the lower 1 driving the track its the lower bearing behind your secondary clutch, you'll see the speedo pick-up sensor and when the bearing is getting close to let go that little GEAR on the end of the shaft will HIT or TOUCH the speedo sensor and cause some weird readings, that bearing should be changed EVERY year and depending how much milage you put on a year it should be re-lube during the season...

I will check that bearing should i be able to see any movement in the bearing if in fact it is hitting the speedo pickup? I had greased the jackshaft bearing at the beginning of the season as that seemed to be the major one that fails, i did not know about this one failing!!

Thanks griz thats what i went for first and got lucky glad someone else has had the same problem and same fix!!
