What are the most affordable and relatively simple engine mods that can be done to the 120 genisis 4 stroke motor if any to increase performance?
Hmmm, there's not too much in the way of simple and afforable. Some CR9EK plugs might show a little gain of 1 or 2hp, but it would be hard to feel. Yamaha dialed the engine in fairly well for the current state of tune - installed carbs and header/exhaust.
Depending on how you ride, you may want to consider clutching upgrades and/or a gearing change.
To gain more bang you'll need to go further than yoour request... I believe Excell still offers their header, but it's not a terribly simple item to install. I'm working on a carb upgrade.. Fundy Performance offers a bunch of nice stuff including cams...

check the excell website for pipes, i think they got about 8 hp out of them.
