I have seen posts where the Doo P503189679 2 bolt mounts are being used to install extra idler wheels on the inside of the rails. Does anyone know if this can be done on an 06 Nytro?

Brad

I don't know the specifics on the Doo wheels, but I do know that when the suspension is fully collapsed there is almost no space for wheels. To see for yourself raise the back of the sled by the rear bumper and then release the tension on the torsion springs. Flip the front slider forward, and then carefully lift the long arm of the spring up and over the mid idler wheels. Once this is done, fold the long arm of the springs up over the rear idler wheel bolts and then drop the sled down to the ground. You will then see what space is avaialble for wheels. I think you will find the same thing I did and that is the only one space for a 5" wheel is by mounting it on the inside of the rail using the last hole in the rail before the rear bumpstops.

Good luck,
Greg

What part of nb are you from?

I also have a 2006 nytro that I have been fighting with. I have added ski-doo wheels all around after ruining two sets of yamaha junk wheels in the middle in app 150 miles. as well as a set of slides. I have also added wheels to the back of the suspension on the outsidenot exactly sure of the measurement but there is room. It did seem to help with slide wear, they still wore about 1/2 out but didn,t get any worse yet app 2000 miles. I am from fredericton.

I am going to gear sled up and see if this will help it run better as well as bring my rpm down, I am app 89-9100

Hey dooboy, I'm in Moncton

I mounted a set of marginal snow wheels on the inside of the rails. The mounting block is located about 1/2 in front the bump stop. I also replaced the stock outer wheels with the Doo wheels. The slides are holding up great but there has been lots of powder on the trails this year.

For the RPM, I replaced the clutch weight tip rivets with the heavier ones from Yamaha. It didn't help over-revving at 90~95 mph but I don't spend much time there anyway. Gearing would help that. I did find a big difference in gas mileage at "normal" trail speeds with no noticeable loss in corner to corner performance.

The only other changes I made were adding Pilot skis with 6"shaper bar carbides, setting the Fox pressure at 50 psi, reducing the front skid shock pre-load, reducing the stock transfer a bit and pulling up the limiter strap 1 or 2 holes (I forget...). I made all of these changes except for adjusting the front shock pre-load last year but still found handling to be a bit unpredictable at times due to a rocking effect on the front of the skid. The lower pre-load made all the difference.

Cheers!
Brad

Thanks Brad.

I am planning on adding the extra weight to the tips as well, especially if it helps gas mileage, the mileage is good but not really much better than the sleds I ride with. certain conditions I will beat everybody, maybe next day I get beat by a liter. I sometimes get beat by a ski-doo 800R as well as a 500ss

How do you like the pilot skis on this sled?

Do you have problems with sled bottoming out, I had major trouble, added the bump stoppers that come on the vectors made a huge difference.

I am hoping to gear the sled up tonight to 23/40 from the stock 21/40.

I will post if it helps.

My personal opinion is the pilot skis are well worth the money. Trail performance is improved as is flotation in powder. Even with the shaper bars, they still steer easier than the stockers. We just added 1/4" shims to the skis on an RX1 that I run with last night. He did the "Nytro" conversion (seat, bars and a ZX2 skid) and found that it steered like a dump truck due to the added ski pressure. I'll let you know if it makes a difference.

I forgot to mention the bump stoppers.... Yes, I added those too. I find they work great, most times. They tend to cause the skid to kick back in the real nasties. I might have someone re-valve the clicker for more rebound damping.

Let me know how the re-gearing goes. As far as gas mileage goes with the tip weight change, I would always be about dead even with the RX1. Last time out he took $29 and I took $24! I doubt that those results will consistent but it's a good start.

Have you considered installing a Vector primary spring?

Brad

Thanks Brad.

Yes, I have wondered what the vector primary spring would do for sled. Do you use this spring?

I do get alot of kick back as well from the bump stoppers.

I geared my sled up last night 23/40 only rode it on the river by my house, it will definetely go faster as the river is glare ice, I am seeing about a 5 mph gain. Rpm did not seem to change still running 89-91.
Did you have your primary clutch machined so it will open farther?
I may need to do that for next year.
I have not played with sled too much, only change yet is the gearing last night.

Do you run the cr10 spark plugs?

Is the rx1 alot faster than your nytro?
I am getting beat by a strong running cx 600 polaris, hoping the gearing will help.
thanks

I thought about using the Vector spring. It has the same engagement with a lower finish. I chose the weight option because it would leave the mid band about the same.

What do you know about machining the primary? Will the secondary open far enough to accommodate it? That's a mod I'd be willing to do....

For the spark plugs, and the entire motor for that matter, I'll leave that stock

The RX1 and the Nytro are about the same for normal corner-to-corner trail running. The RX1 is definitely faster on the top end.

Let me know how you make out with that cx 600

The gearing definitely made it faster on plowed road or icy hardpack conditions. and it seemed to roll much freeer and it seemed better on gas. We now have snow again on the trails and they are soft, sled now feels sluggish and slower. I did get to race the XC again but only on the soft trails, he can still beat me.

I think the gearing would be better 22/40 or else leave stock and cut clutches so they can go into overdrive and add the extra pin weight.

I will likely change mine to 22/40 next and try that.
