Insurance company's need to know that a 1049cc engine is the same as a 600cc 2 stroke engine or close to it.
In the snowmobile world, yes the viper is a 600cc class sled.
In reality the viper is over 1000cc and that doesn’t fly with the Insurance world with powersports. They have a big influence with the UNDER 1000cc
Industry standard these days.
Winder... 998
Skidoo ... 900/900t ect.
So the 1049 viper will fade away.
Skidoo’s 1200 will fade away.
What 135-150 hp 4stroke from Yamaha we will see is anybody’s guess as of now if any.
Thats a interesting observation. I agree that might for sure have a influence. All the more reason why Yamaha should have given the Viper motor the power it should have!In the snowmobile world, yes the viper is a 600cc class sled.

Interesting read in the latest American snowmobiler...
Viper only gets the new rear hub design which is now standard in all the new 137 skids. They didn’t update the handle bar controls, say it’s cost savings and basically say the viper is the entry level sled for Yamaha.
This just justifies to me that the viper/ 1049 cc configuration is not in any of there futur plans.
Can’t believe Yamaha took a very nice trail sled and destroyed it in my eyes.

If the Viper is in their future plans I would guess that it will be with a non-turbo 998. It would be a shame if they drop it. The fastest box stock sled in production is not for everyone. A $16K snowmobile isn't for everyone. A really nice riding trail machine in the $11-13K range however.the viper/ 1049 cc configuration is not in any of there futur plans

2018 Real World Sled of the Year, Viper LTX LE made it to the final four just to be put out first due to lack of handling because of skis that just don't cut it.Can’t believe Yamaha took a very nice trail sled and destroyed it in my eyes.

My insurance company had no issue recognizing both my vipers as 600cc class sleds. When I set it up I was very direct about that and had no issue. When I was looking at a sidewinder same thing but it was $50 more a year due to it being in the 800cc class sleds?

https://www.sledinsure.com/ They use progressive. I got the best coverage option. Had my insurance lady here check it out as they don’t insure snowmobiles and she said it was a great looking policy. Did everything right over phone. Of coarse the test is in using it and knock on wood I haven’t had to yet and hope not to. Haha!Which company?

I had a progressive policy before switching to sled insurance. They are great, saved me a lot, and still have a progressive policy. Meet them at Snodeo in Old Forge last year....

2018 Yamaha Viper RTX. Will be paying 230/year full coverage 500 deductible through State Farm. The same sled on Progressive was over $700.

I like the idea.... will try it on my new to me viper. If they have a VIN # some companies run it and charge accordingly ….My insurance company had no issue recognizing both my vipers as 600cc class sleds. When I set it up I was very direct about that and had no issue. When I was looking at a sidewinder same thing but it was $50 more a year due to it being in the 800cc class sleds?

I have Formost but only run liability, They wanted 330$ for full coverage on my Viper with a 500 deductible. Liability on both my Viper and Phazer is 52$ a year for the pair. Haven't wrecked in 10+ years so figure I can fix anything on the sled for the $3000+ I've saved over the years with just liability.
