Involute/Extrovert Drivers? Help!!!!!!!!!

I just installed new 9 tooth Involute/Extrovert double drivers on my 03 RX-1..Now I have a clearance problem. The Extroverted teeth are hitting on the the front susp.bar.(The Bar that the front shock mounts to).This front bar is the one that bolts the susp. to the front of the tunnel.Should I have used 8 tooth drivers for more clearance? Anyone else run into this problem? Thanks?

RXONE..........That's a new one. Is your sled a mountain? Last year, I tried to install a set of 9 tooth extrovert drivers (from Hartman) on my mountain, but they were to big and the track was way to tight. There wasn't a clearance problem, but with 9-tooth drivers, there wasn't enough travel in the rear adjustment to compensate for the larger drivers. I ended up going with a set of 8-tooth extrovert drivers.

It doesn't make sense, but maybe the drivers are different size from one manufacture to another.

You need to put the driveshaft in a lathe to turn the tips of the drivers down for clearence. Wahl bro's will do this if it was asked for before shipping.

WFO it's a shorty not a mountain.And the stock drivers are 9 tooth.Does'nt make sense to me. But I did install a set of Maxx. Perf control rod adjusters and had to use the forward set of holes in the skid. Hmmm wonder if that changed the geometrics of the skid or something?Thanks WFO..Guess I'll have to investigate alittle further..

The 9 tooth drivers don't fit without lathe work either... Shorty or Mountain.

Not to repeat but Wahl Bros. would have machined these down for you.

I had mine machined and they still hit the cross shaft a little. I just took a 4" grinder to them while they were on the sled. You can get in there no problem. Take a bit off each wheel so that you leave about 1/16 " clearance between the tips and the shaft. Some guys will say that it will not be "true" but you will not notice it.

This was in another post previously. Spec is to machine 3/16" off the tips. You could go 1/4" no problem. It is worthwhile to true the driver surfaces as well if you're going to put it in a lathe. Spin it and you'll see what I mean. One of my drivers was so out of whack I had to send it back for another, it was impossible to true it on a lathe it was so bad. I think that the trueing of those drivers is going to eliminate some of those harmonic type noises you hear at slower speeds.

Ok so my question is. If these companies making the aftermarket drivers for the RX-1 are aware of this probem then why does'nt someone tell you before you go through all the work involved to find out for ourselves?..So if the 9 tooth drivers cause a clearance issue then would'nt it be better to run 8 tooth drivers? Seems like they should all make them according to the same specs?..Nothing is ever easy I guess... hahahahaha

Drivers

I don't think they make the drivers just for the RX, they make the drivers for any sled that uses that particular size. The drive shaft clearance would be different on different sleds. It just happens that it is a little tight on the RX. The 8" would work, but then you would be changing your drive ratio, which you probably don't want to do.
Besides, this has been a pretty well discussed issue here. Fortuneately, I ordered mine from Wahl Bros. and told them I wanted them machined to be used with an M-10, so if I get one I will have that extra clearance. I am told that the M-10 has a thicker shaft and needs even more clearance than the Proaction. As far as I can tell Wahl Bros. doesn't charge for the machining.

Larger Drivers

It is like going to taller gearing. Like on a 10 speed bike when you #*$&@ the cahin from the smaller front sprocketto the bigger one you go faster on top end. But it would require more power to accelerate as quickly from a stop, with the bigger gear. Hope that explains it.

The problem with smaller drivers is they are less efficient, the tighter the track has to bend around a corner the harder it rolls. Now if there were room I would install 10 tooth drivers, as I have done in other sleds.
