Is everyone following the bolt/oil filter tourque specs listed in the manual? It list a spec for titening the oil fitler and the head light bolts etc. Would it be ok to just tighten till you think its tight enough?

Ive been a mechanic for over 12 years..

THe only things i torque are Wheels and Head bolts,, everything else i play by ear (and experience)

If its a small bolt, you just want it a tad over snug.. the bigger the bolt the tighter it will need to be,

tighten everything till it strips, then back it off a quarter turn :drink:

LMFAO!!!

As far as the Oil Filter, just the same as a car. I usually just tighen it with my hand until I can not tighten it anymore. For the head lamp; just tighen it till it's snug. I don't think there's a need for any more than that.

However, if you don't have a lot of mechanical ability I would just go by the spec. After a few times you'll get the fell for it.

oil filters dont need to be that tight.. Ive seen filters so tight, that you had to Chissel them off..

Put a little oil on the seal and tighten till snug..

One thing to watch is; make sure that the oring off of the old filter is not still stuck to the engine. Double o-rings cause big leaks lol.
