at the end of the day, you have realize that 89 indy trail weighed like 400~ pounds, and your Venture weighs something like 630lb. I would bet the venture has a thinner track stance too which doesnt distribute that engine weight like the polaris did. These are heavy sleds, they go very fast and do it comfortably, no matter what you do you won't get that same feeling you do on the Indy Trail, one of the only real flaws with these snowmobiles.
What are you using this sled for most of the time? are you hauling sleighs full of chopped wood everyday up and down hills and rough terrain? if you dont get a sled made for heavy duty work youll end up spending more on parts, if its general use then most sleds would be fine. Dont get hung up just on a venture, you can put 2-up seats on pretty much anything these days along with handwarmers and everything else
Fair enough, about the Polaris / Yamaha comparison, but what I don't understand is when I compare the Venture RS vs. the Viking Professional, what makes it so much deep snow appropriate other than the wider track? From what I've found online, the Viking is over 160 lbs heavier than the Venture and the ski stance is narrower on the Viking, so that certainly can't help floatation and deep snow handling? What am I missing?

Fair enough, about the Polaris / Yamaha comparison, but what I don't understand is when I compare the Venture RS vs. the Viking Professional, what makes it so much deep snow appropriate other than the wider track? From what I've found online, the Viking is over 160 lbs heavier than the Venture and the ski stance is narrower on the Viking, so that certainly can't help floatation and deep snow handling? Best guess is the 20" wide track that's 154" long. Wide skis and a two speed tranny as well. I recall riding a utility sled a while back and the "low" gear was awesome when you are in the deep stuff.
I don't remember.....in all of our discussions here have I suggested a lower engagement primary spring? Oh yea....I did.

I wasn't aware of the two speed tranny in the Viking, that would certainly make a difference! Yes, I will certainly get the lower engagement clutch spring, that will hopefully help me out!

mine is the venture tf so it is part way between the vkpro and the vent
I have gotten stuck easy in some places
but it has also plowed through the worst trail breaking conditions I have ever seen
