Is my belt too tight? Pics included

Lift the back of the sled. If the track just barely turns, at idle, or you can easily rotate it by hand the belt its right. If the track turns fast, belt is to tight.

at idle it doesn't turn on it's own but i was able to spin it by hand.

it was pretty deep, I'd say the temp was probably in the teens. I guess I'll take it out again before I make any changes. I should have a spare belt anyways though. What's my best option for a belt? My dealer wants $80.

Is there a cheaper place online to get them? Should I be looking at something else other than an OEM replacement?

Here's one for $60

Try Sledparts.com also. You'll need the Dayco or gates number cuz the 08 Nytro is not listed yet. Should not be hard to find.

Im not a clutch expert but I am having the same problem with my Mtx. How high is belt comming up in the primary? These machines are set up for 8-10 thousand feet. Im in the process of adding some wieght to my primary.

IMO, Yamaha makes the best belt. (longest life and most cost effective)

washers were removed but I still had the same problems today. Any other thoughts?

Yamaha really $#%$^& when they selected the stock track on the Nytro's. It is a worthless pile of junk it couldn't pull a limp dick out of a lard bucket.

dfinn - I was in some wierd snow this weekend wet on top and sugar under neath. I thought my belt was slipping also so I replaced it with a new one, scotch brited the shieves and same thing. I determined that it was simply the track paddles folding over and not "biting" in the snow. The next day (changed nothing) had differentr snow conditions and the track hooked up okay and I didn't feel any slippage.

IMO, Yamaha really blew it with this track. I've never bought into the theory of better floatation with soft paddles and this track proves it to me. :o| :o| :o| :moon: :moon:

I going to see the Yamaha reps in a couple of weeks and boy are they going to get an earfull!

hmm...unfortunately I'm not so sure I can chock it up to that. It was very inconsistent today. 75% of the time the sled was fine, the other times it definitely felt like something was slipping and the people I was with could hear it too. I even did back to back climbs up the same hill, one time I only made it about 1/2 way, the other time I had the highest high mark of the day.

Also, a couple of times on flats when I've felt it slipping I have looked back behind me and it didn't seem like the track was spitting any snow out.

I think I'm going to try a new belt and then it if that doesn't work it goes to the dealer.

how much preload do you have on your secondary? What spring do have in it?

Dunno, it's stock, I haven't touched anything except the adding and removing of the washers. The sled is literally bone stock except for having some stickers removed.
